Never knew this before, but prior to this week if you wanted to drink in a bar in Utah, you had to join a club, fillout an application and pay a fee.. it changed..
Shows how much I drink, have been in Utah 3 or 4 times and never knew this..
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) | Bartenders in Utah threw open their doors Wednesday as the state ditched a 40-year-old requirement that customers fill out an application, pay a fee and become a member of a private club before setting foot in a bar.
"It's 40 years of oppression come to an end," said Dave Morris, owner of the bar Piper Down in Salt Lake City. "There's this national perception that we don't have bars here, so hopefully this gets out there that we're open for business

Wonder what made them put a stupid law like that in, I passed through Ogden during WWII and everything was wide open, I was only 17, they didn't even ask for ID's, strange people out there.

I used to live in salt lake, and worked in the canyon. They have these strange clickers on the booze that counts out an ounce and a half. As far as the club thing goes, they just took care of you at the door someone sponsered you and you got in, no big deal. All the good bartenders would drive over to wyoming for fifths to stimulate their business. The tru travesty is the % of alcohol in the beer 3.2%. It's pretty much safe to say that everyone goes to wyoming for their own personal keg, to get warmed up properly for a night on the town.

It's really bizaah there. Drove through there twice. Not worth stopping. Every border state is so much better. Freaking wierdos.

The club thing was also prominent in Texas. Except the cities (Dallas, Houston, etc) you had to buy a membership to drink at any location. Someone, somewhere, was making a lot of money.
Southern Utah is my second fave place in the US second only to Alaska... it is a geological wonder..
I'll give you that, there's very cool erosional and depositional effects there. Just not worth the tradeoff. The people there are creepy and the culture is wierd. Just my opinion.
I hear Hawaii's way better than any state, but I may never get there.

It is somewhat different, but it's raw beauty far outweighs anything negative.. great national parks, great hiking and the north rim of the Grand Canyon is beyond compare.. plan on getting into Grand Escalante this time.. Have already done time in Zion and Bryce.. staying in Kanab this time and will volunteer a couple of days at Best Friends..
