The House of Representatives Friday approved a milestone energy and climate change bill that would curb greenhouse gasses omitted by industry and agriculture.
But Rep. John Boehner, the House Republican leader, used an extraordinary one-hour speech shortly before the final vote to warn of unintended consequences in what he said was a "defining bill." He called it a "bureaucratic nightmare" that would cost jobs, depress real estate prices and put the government into parts of the economy where it now has no role.
The final bill also contained concessions to satisfy farm-state lawmakers, ethanol producers, hydroelectric advocates, the nuclear industry and others, some of them so late that they were not made public until 3 a.m. on Friday.
This "amounts to the largest tax increase in American history under the guise of climate change," declared Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind.
The moment that we are waiting for FINALLY ARRIVED. Democrats will no longer DENY the 'new' tax any more.

If we don't sign this bill, global warming will become it a "environmental nightmare" that would cost jobs, depress real estate prices and put the government into parts of the economy where it now has no role.

LMAO. Wow. Signing the bill will take hundreds of billions OUT of the economy. It will cost jobs by making companies have to cut back in addition to many will leave the country to go to one of the many places that doesn't have the environmental rules. It will make us more noncompetitive than we already are.

The environmental problems will be worldwide. If the US does nothing to prevent it, then we forfeit our world leader status, never mind the billions lost when the real crises start to hit. Laugh now, that's what you been doing since global warming was first talked about. Could have saved as lot of those billions if we went into action immediately.
It will also raise electricity prices for consumers by $175 a year per household by 2020, according to a report by the Congressional Budget Office, significantly less than the $3,000 price hike predicted by Republicans who say the “energy tax” will increase energy bills and the cost of consumer goods.
Not only will you pay new tax but you also see your electric bill going up too.

This particular bill is the worst of both worlds. For those that believe in the doomsday scenario, it doesn't go nearly far enough to the point that it would be ineffectual. Forget the obvious that other developing countries would be vastly increasing CO2 output while we decreased but to get this bill passed they also had to make massive concessions in this country. Then, of course, for the non believers, it would be a massive tax in multiple ways on the American consumer which would further stunt the economy.
As I have said before if out idiot president had used the stimulus money to create green jobs of developing alternative energy and converting vehicles to run on natural gas, that would have much more effect than this; instead we're building turtle tunnels.
