Why was the IQ thread closed?

I didn't pay close attention to that thread (I had no doubt that IQ is at least partly inherited). But it seemed to stray far away from the original topic.

Was it State who started it? He can be kinda cryptic sometimes, but he seemed to think this was a hot topic, along the lines of whether gays are born gay or not. But it wasn't and I'd agree with you.

It got closed cuz Patters didn't like it. If it got closed cuz it's not "political", then why do we have a Michael Jackson thread going, or a sun is out thread? I don't mind either, as I'm just trying to make a point.

By occasionally closing threads and occasionally deleting individual posts, the hope is to discourage people from personal attacks. As far as the bigoted threads go, I'm still struggling with the right way to do it, but in general what I'm trying to do is close threads that are both bigoted and filled with personal attacks. It's not a perfect system, but hopefully provides a little disincentive for people to violate the rules.
