I do not think the recent rise of China as the world's second-largest economy (behind the U.S.) was quite what he had in mind.

Bush and the neo-cons failed. Given the opportunity, they would have failed in this matter as well.

Frankly, it's more likely the fact that the U.S. boogeyman has been removed that makes it impossible for Iranian Conservatives and American Conservatives to symbiotically feed on the fear of their people.
