According to this article, Obama popularity is not going to last longer if he continues doing his *****.
Quote:
But government also is central to his most ambitious first-year initiatives, health care and climate change. For example, by almost every estimate, what the president wants to do to reform health care will cost a trillion or more federal dollars over the next decade, and potentially make government a more significant arbiter than it already is in the way the nation's health care system operates.
Obama insists his mission is not to permanently enlarge the federal government. But he's certainly doing that in the short term. The risks of juggling so many big things at once have become clearer as the system attempts to deal with them and the public tries to understand them. At the pace he's going, he threatens to overload the circuits.
Polls show concern about the size of government and the mushrooming deficits under Obama's policies. For some time, the polls also have shown public skepticism about the president's efforts to use federal money to save General Motors. Obama's effort to include a public health insurance plan as part of the overall health care reform package has become a flash point in that debate.
On matters of foreign policy, Obama is buffeted from the right and the left. His proposal to close the detention center at Guantanamo Bay has drawn consistent criticism from Republicans, led by former vice president Dick Cheney, and, more recently, caused nervousness among Democratic lawmakers.
Obama is a big spender and control freak.

So far, Obama's approval rating remains strong. If his plans continue to work, then people will tolerate more government. If his plans fail, people will want something else.

Obama's approval rating is starting to drop : Obama’s Approval Rating Drops Five Points, his stimulus plan is proving to be a disaster and people are becoming more pessimistic about big government.

What doesn't work in government? Compare it overall to similarly sized organizations, and government does quite a good job.
I've had no more bad experiences with government than I've had with business. I turn on my faucet, I get clean water. There was enough oil throughout the winter. The air I breath is pretty clean compared with some other countries. The roads are great. Our country seems to be quite safe from foreign attack. We have beautiful parks. We're protect rare animals and trees. The value of my money doesn't fluctuate much, and our systems are so good that I can trust my money to third parties. The courts seem to work fine, our political system works well, unemployment insurance works well, the way we care for our needy seems to work pretty well. The way we control the skies -- from airplanes to air waves -- works well. Our food and drugs seem to be generally very safe and reliable.
I think overall, government works very well, and some of you are just spoiled. You make up things about how bad government is because you only want government to provide what you need (roads, clean water, protection of your savings and investments, etc.), not what other people need.
