The tying goal for South Korea came in the last minutes of the game.

Eight of the players bravely wore green arm and wristbands (Mousavi protester colors) in the first half.

They, evidently were "talked to" during the intermission and trudged back onto the field without the green symbols for the second half.

This whole thing becomes more and more fascinating and dramatic by the day.

The interesting part of all of this, is the inability to silence the critics with the advent of all of the various forms of communication.. would not be surprised if somewhere along the line they shut down all phone networks..

That might more complete anarchy and chaos than they have now.

Couldn't happen to a nicer regime.

I think it's a stretch to say anything Obama has proposed compares with what the Iranians are actually doing. The President has extraordinary powers in the case of a major emergency, such as 9/11, when Bush all on his own grounded every airline. In the case of the internet, this has not been codified. It's hard to imagine a circumstance where a president would shut down the internet, but I suppose if we were ever under a full-scale attack or if the internet was being used effectively as a tool to destroy our networks, it might be necessary to take some extreme action.

As far as a the Iranian team goes, it's great they reminded us of the power of communications that is held outside the world of technology and news media.

nice job protecting your little buddies.......

but I don't believe a situation realistically exists where outside attackers can destroy networks.........would be no different from implementing policy in the event of a martian invasion........darryl's previous point was to shut down the internet so that the prez can communicate which was 100% garbage

I don't think any of us know of situations where the internet would absolutely need to be shut down, but again there are a whole range of laws on the books to codify emergency powers. After all, during national disasters, the NG I think is allowed to break into people's apartments without warrants or any real evidence that someone is trapped inside. If you think Obama plans to shut down the internet in order to consolidate his power and to wield dictatorial control, I think you're being a little paranoid. But, then again, I don't think you really think that, and are instead trying too hard to draw an analogy between Iranian handling of political expression and the way Obama would handle it.

What I said, was that cannot envision a time when this would be necessary, but then on Sept 10,2001 could not envision what would happen the next day.. I am not championing crap, get your facts straight.
