Stand-up comics do Harry. But you're right, the "comedians" who have mainstream jobs in show business won't. Probably because they're 99% fans of his. There's no rules in comedy, so we can't really make them. If Letterman made a joke about the Obama kids, oh man would this be a different story. But that's just how it is now.

It's why I never liked comedians much, anyway. Always going for the lowest common denominator. Talk about "dumbing down" the culture. Look no further than the growth of infatuation with "comedy" the past 40 years. Today's comedy is like the Roman Colleseum or the British hang-draw-and quarter 'em shows, the French guillotine. We don't kill people physically anymore; we just drag people into the trash through moronic, dirty attempts at "humor". Today's "put-down humor" (Letterman style) is yesterday's burning at the stake.
