Default Sotomayor a product of affirmative action

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/11/us...ml?_r=2&ref=us

Quote:
Judge Sonia Sotomayor once described herself as “a product of affirmative action” who was admitted to two Ivy League schools despite scoring lower on standardized tests than many classmates, which she attributed to “cultural biases” that are “built into testing.”

The clips include lengthy remarks about her experiences as an “affirmative action baby” whose lower test scores were overlooked by admissions committees at Princeton University and Yale Law School because, she said, she is Hispanic and had grown up in poor circumstances.
She got in a top school because of 'affirmative action'. She turned around and did it to 'minority'. Perhaps, she forgot that her 'lowest score' test wouldn't get her in school????

Quote:
her vote to uphold a decision by New Haven to throw out results from a firefighters’ exam because not enough members of minorities scored well.

With my academic achievement in high school, I was accepted rather readily at Princeton and equally as fast at Yale, but my test scores were not comparable to that of my classmates,” she said. “And that’s been shown by statistics, there are reasons for that. There are cultural biases built into testing, and that was one of the motivations for the concept of affirmative action to try to balance out those effects.”

And she's been nominated to the SC based on Affirmative Action - she would never have been heard of had she been a white male. It is what it is, she's where she is today because of race and gender and she's going where she's going based on race and gender. Get used to it, it won't get better with the likes of her on the court.

It's what Obama's tactic is all about. If anybody doesn't let Hispanic woman become a SC judge, Obama can use his 'race' card to defeat people. He loves to tell everybody that Democratic is a friend of 'minority'.

When Bush selected a Hispanic lawyer to be his Fed judge, libbies SHUTTED IT DOWN because they didn't want Bush to be the FIRST President TO SELECT Hispanic.

Don't you feel special about democrats when they select the first hispanic woman in SC when they didn't let Bush do that?

The honor and credit will go to King Obama.

She's a Racist and her appointment is "Racist" but it isn't considered racist because she isn't White and a Democrat appointed her.

This really does bother me. This is the Supreme Court of the United States! The best, and only the best dammit! That's not to say that Sotomayor isn't qualified, or is dumb or something. I just can't stand to hear morons, and yes, they are morons if they feel this way, say "it should be a woman" or "it should be a _________". This is too important for crap like that. The best, and only the best, regardless of color, gender, race, or ethnicity.

Wow, affirmative action really does work. She has the reputation of being extremely sharp and intelligent. Without affirmative action, we might not have had someone with her kind of perspective as a candidate.

I have heard that she's good. Solid, pedestrian. But that her opinions show no sign of unusually deep thinking.
