Default The Media Fall for Phony 'Jobs' Claims

McGurn: The Media Fall for Phony 'Jobs' Claims - WSJ.com

Quote:
Mr. Obama's comments yesterday are a perfect illustration of just such a claim. In the months since Congress approved the stimulus, our economy has lost nearly 1.6 million jobs and unemployment has hit 9.4%. Invoke the magic words, however, and -- presto! -- you have the president claiming he has "saved or created" 150,000 jobs. It all makes for a much nicer spin, and helps you forget this is the same team that only a few months ago promised us that passing the stimulus would prevent unemployment from rising over 8%.

If the "saved or created" formula looks brilliant, it's only because Mr. Obama and his team are not being called on their claims. And don't expect much to change. So long as the news continues to repeat the administration's line that the stimulus has already "saved or created" 150,000 jobs over a time period when the U.S. economy suffered an overall job loss 10 times that number, the White House would be insane to give up a formula that allows them to spin job losses into jobs saved. "You would think that any self-respecting White House press corps would show some of the same skepticism toward President Obama's jobs claims that they did toward President Bush's tax cuts," says Mr. Fratto. "But I'm still waiting."

Finally, somebody are speaking the truth about Obama phony job claim.

I find it interesting that all the people who were claiming that the stimulus was going to be a good thing haven't responded to this..

Let's see if they do now..

All they can do right now is 'hope'. They would love to say something but they can't.

They'll just say "it would have been much worse without the stimulus" and no-one can prove they're wrong. Of course much of the spending doesn't happen until 2010 - the year of the midterms.

How can it be worse when you only saved or created 150000 jobs WITH 1.2 T dollars while loosing million jobs?

According to liberals, Obama is still making progress even though he saves or creates 1 job while loosing the rest with his 1.2T dollars.

They can always say it would have been twice as bad and no-one can actually prove them wrong - you can't prove a negative. Of course, I disagree but I can't prove it.

None of the major media DARES to question OBAMA anything because they are using his bail out money to survive.

Obama and his cohorts have to show people some kind of 'progress' even though it's a *****ty one and hopefully, they are stupid enough to believe in it.

It's Obama Ponzi Scheme.

We've covered this ground oh I dunno about 150,000 times now.

Yes there is high unemployment, yes it's been unfolding since dubya's departure, and yes, the stimulus has hardly gotten underway.

So if you have relatively low unemployment and the trend is for it to get worse, you could go from 2-3% unemployment despite a stimulus that saves 150,000 jobs. It just would not have gone to 3.X%. Duh. Basic math.

Same basic math applies to a situation with extremely high unemployment.

This is Bush's recession, clowns. September 2008 kicked all this off, not January 2009.
