President Barack Obama says he's open to requiring all Americans to buy health insurance, as long as the plan provides a "hardship waiver" to exempt poor people from having to pay.
Obama opposed such an individual mandate during his campaign, but Congress increasingly is moving to embrace the idea.
In providing the first real details on how he wants to reshape the nation's health care system, the president urged Congress on Wednesday toward a sweeping overhaul that would allow Americans to buy into a government insurance plan.
Obama has asked the House and Senate each to finish legislation by early August, so that the two chambers can combine their bills in time for him to sign a single, sweeping measure in October.

I guess you've never heard of the ER, and wonder how they pay for those who get treated there with no insurance. I guess you haven't seen the most recent stories of people without coverage being tossed out on the streets.
Great to see how much you care for your fellow americans.
This is a fact of life for every other industrial nation on Earth. The people with money help out those who have less by assiting in providing quality healthcare to thos ein need. Its the decent thing to do. As you stated in other threads....you want to leave this country. As I've stated, I'd enjoy reading your chronicles of frustration attempting to find another nation that doen't have universal coverage.

We pay for the uninsured on many different levels, using an insurance program may make sense.. the reality is in many cities emergency rooms, very expensive, are used as a replacement for regular doctors visits.. people avoid preventive health care, because they cannot afford it.
Hospitals receiving public funds, Hill Burton Act, cannot deny medical care to anyone in need.. something has to happen here... whatever it is hope it is equitable and does not come across stupid like the medical bill for seniors complete with its "donuts".....

so why not get everyone on board, and streamline the billing and payment systems. Save money in admin costs, and make sure everyone sees a doctor?

Bill Clinton SIGNED it into law but it's not FREE any more if you go to ER. If you don't have any health insurance or the ability to pay for your care, you'll be out of hospital in no time.
I have read a lot of reports about how hospitals around the country TREAT poor people. It's ashame to see it.
When everybody in US has Obama universal health care, hospitals will hopefully treat people better.
I would like to know what Obama universal health care WILL AND WON'T COVER. I wouldn't mind at all if it covers expensive drugs or organ tranplantation.
The private health care insurance is comming to an end very soon.
