Default Obama: Trade your current car for a NEW GREEN one

And that's why I'm calling on Congress to pass fleet modernization legislation that can provide a credit to consumers who turn in old cars and purchase cleaner, more fuel-efficient cars.
Senate closes in on 'cash-for-clunkers' vote | detnews.com | The Detroit News

Consumers are a step closer to getting thousands of dollars to trade in gas-guzzling vehicles for new models.

The Senate was close Tuesday to calling a vote on the bill to give consumers up to $4,500. The "cash-for-clunkers" legislation is part of a bill regulating tobacco. A vote could come today.

It would offer credits of up to $4,500 for consumers to trade in vehicles rated at 18 miles per gallon or less, if they buy a new vehicle of at least 22 mpg.

There are slightly different requirements for light trucks and business fleets.

Similar measures have boosted auto sales in other countries.

Sales in the United States have plunged amid the deep recession, and automakers and dealers have called the legislation crucial to helping them weather the downturn.

President Barack Obama, in remarks Monday on General Motors Corp.'s bankruptcy filing, urged Congress to pass such a bill.
Obama is a con artist. It's another way for us to buy his "government motors' cars.

2 things for you to keep in mind:

1- What does Obama want in return when he gives you 4500 dollars? I would like to know if he has any hidden agenda. Please SPELL EVERYTHING OUT, OBAMA. I don't TRUST YOU.

2- Does it mean that this 'incentive' is available if you BUY his 'GM' car?

Until these questions are 'answered', Obama is a fcking con artist.

he won't be able to get away with subsidizing GM cars.............even if he does, unless the GM vehicles improve, it won't matter

I want to know what we have to give Obama BEFORE he gives us 4500 dollars.

My 1993 Pick Up with over 170K miles.. great truck, but has outlived its usefulness...

This program has been very effective in Europe...

Just curious.
How has your '93 outlived its usefulness? My '89 is a far more reliable truck than my '04. Less time in the shop, better mpg, never fails to start even in the coldest weather, and I can fix it myself. Every single part is replaceable in my driveway.

It is broken down more than it runs, right now needs a starter ( which is a pain in the ass to replace) , new fans, windshield wiper motor, good tune up, oil leak and I just had a gas tank installed. There is some body rot around the wheel wells.. it has served us well, but there comes a time.

The MPG are about 16-17... time to think about something newer... if 4500 was avaiable for a trade would seriously think about it..

So if you bought a fuel efficient car you get to subsidize those that didn't. Nice.

I am certain the gas tax will go up significantly, that's the only way obama can get people to buy the cars he wants them to.
