WWII forced spending in other areas. It wasn't Roosevelt's New Deal that got us out of the Depression. In fact, I'll try to find it, but I saw something that showed that the New Deal actually worsened the situation of Americans.

Putting people to work pumps money into the economy and that helps business, but from a liberal perspective, more importantly, his programs helped families by giving them jobs and some sort of safety net.
Some neorevisionist conservatives have tried rewriting the Roosevelt story, citing a one year recession that occurred during the recovery, but it doesn't seem like their argument has gained any traction accept among conservative political operatives. Roosevelt did much much more than create public works programs, so either you're really ignorant of American history or you're simply trying to score some cheap political points.
