Default Poll of the day: More Americans “Pro-Life” Than “Pro-Choice” for First Time

So says Gallup, so it must be true!

I think there is a difference between asking people if they are pro-life, and actually moving to ban abortion. I don't think the numbers would be similar if the latter were the question.

More Americans “Pro-Life” Than “Pro-Choice” for First Time

Also, fewer think abortion should be legal “under any circumstances”

by Lydia Saad

PRINCETON, NJ -- A new Gallup Poll, conducted May 7-10, finds 51% of Americans calling themselves "pro-life" on the issue of abortion and 42% "pro-choice." This is the first time a majority of U.S. adults have identified themselves as pro-life since Gallup began asking this question in 1995.

The new results, obtained from Gallup's annual Values and Beliefs survey, represent a significant shift from a year ago, when 50% were pro-choice and 44% pro-life. Prior to now, the highest percentage identifying as pro-life was 46%, in both August 2001 and May 2002.

Wow, that was a drastic shift. Would not expect it the year a DEM was elected.

Ha!.....

21% of people consider themselves republicans

50% of people are pro-life

does that mean that abortion is more popular than Republicans?

yes.

Surprised at such a dramatic shift, sure they considered polling error.. from a +7 to a -9 in such a short time.. that is a huge swing.

Also wonder if there are semantics issues as indicated by Real World..

American people are finally starting to wake up. It's what gives me hope for America. If America's conscience ever dies, better start learning Chinese or Spanish -- maybe Arabic -- 'cause you're going to need it.
