Default Obama Administration to Boycott U.N. Racism Meeting

Quote:
The Obama administration has decided "with regret" to boycott a U.N. conference on racism next week over objectionable language in the meeting's final document that could single out Israel for criticism and restrict free speech, the State Department said Saturday.
Here is the article.

I'm no Obama supporter, but I support this decision. As I commented...whether he boycotts the meeting or shows up for the meeting and speaks up for Israel is totally up to him. Standing firm to make an important point is what is important. Arguing over style is a waste of time.

Australia is boycotting it also... never realized how many out of country meetings there are.. if he went to them all, would never be in the US.

Good for Obama. He's got class and cojones. He *has* to do this.

Amen, IIRC this is where they tried to make 'defamation of religion" a crime. My only concern is whether with a boycott, there won't be any opposing voices and they can claim that the resolution passed without objection...

Wouldn't it look rather silly for him to go to a meeting on "racism" when not even 200 yrs ago Black people were slaves in his own country and now he, a Black Man is the President of that country, what other country in the world has as many different races living in it than Obama's country, what other country would allow 12 million aliens to illegally cross it's borders and instead of deporting them Obama's country supports them.
The last thing in the world an American President should go to is a meeting on Racism unless they go to "show em how it's done".

Stay home Barry and play with your new puppy.

Good job by the administration & Obama in this case. I don't believe Obama would have attended this sort of administration. The United States is boycotting the event.

The proposal y the UN will ban any criticism of Islam as defamation and a 'crime' funny given that Islamic countries routinely denying religious freedom to worship to members of other religions.

We just have to try to evaluate them the best we can."

Another view with a more complete list of nations not attending...

Why the US will boycott global racism conference | csmonitor.com

Quote:
The first World Conference Against Racism, held in 2001 in Durban, South Africa, was all but derailed when the Israeli-Palestinian conflict took center stage.

The second global meeting against racism, discrimination, and xenophobia, which starts Monday, is on shaky ground over the same question. Over the weekend, the United States and the Netherlands pulled their delegations. Australia, Israel, Canada, Sweden and Italy have said they also may boycott the UN forum in Geneva.

The week-long event is also in trouble over the issue of religious defamation, specifically the portrayal of Islam in Western nations.
