This is part of the problem in this country. IMO it is the problem but who am I to say. Politicians thinking their doing us all a favor ... voting for each other, not reading the bills they vote for and we all keep reaching for our wallets.

Meh, as long as there's a 'gentleman's agreement' in place, IE they're just covering for each other, not changing each other's position, I don't see the problem. I expect it just permits the Legislature to get more done on the record while members have other things to do.

If it was up to me, votes would be open for a set time period and a legislator could do so in person or over the web; but then Texas wouldn't seem quite so down homey I guess.

I saw no evidence this was the case, that they were asked by the other Reps to punch their buttons. And seriously, a Rep from one party willingly entering a vote from a Rep from the other party, even though it's against house rules? That would be too much to expect.
