Please read the link and discuss. One caveat: I posted here because I'd like to discuss the implications of the data contained here, not because I feel we can establish whether Christianity's theology is the absolute truth. Since we are in the political forum I'd request that we discuss only societal or other implications which can be argued or upheld without recource to our personal connection to the supernatural (or lack thereof.) I invite anybody who wants to argue theology, to copy and paste the same article to the religion forum.

The End of Christian America
The percentage of self-identified Christians has fallen 10 points in the past two decades. How that statistic explains who we are now—and what, as a nation, we are about to become.

The fall of 10 points still results in 76% saying they're Christian so I wouldn't call for the end of it just yet - and I'm agnostic so I don't have a dog in the fight.

If the "Anti God" people think the Christians are bad wait until they see what happens when "Allah" moves in.

(I know that God and his kid Jesus can be trashed and slopped on until the cows come home but is it permissible to say anything negative about Mohammad if it isn't I'm so sorry, God Is Truly Great)

GOD DAMN MORMONS

SO much for discussing "only societal or other implications which can be argued or upheld without recource to our personal connection to the supernatural".

I expect part of this relates to Bernard Law and the clergy sex abuse scandal, at least the part that's got the Northeast's numbers down. I know that mess was the final nail in my religious coffin even though it probably would have happened anyway.

I wonder if this effect will fade as time goes by. I know in my case I went about 1/2 way through Altar Boy training near where several incidents occurred right around the peak time period. Nowadays I'll drive by Law's old residence a few times a week. Its not church property anymore and Law is long gone. So in 20 or so years it won't be nearly so personal to someone like myself.
