Richardson: Towns should have option to let illegal immigrants vote locally

The town's state representative said yesterday that cities and towns should have the option to grant illegal immigrants voting rights in local elections to draw them closer into their communities.

In state Rep. Pam Richardson's hometown of Framingham, many of the illegal immigrants - who are largely from Brazil - lack a political voice in their community, she said.

"It's not hard to figure out in the Brazilian community (that) it's very fractured...they don't have a process to pick a leader," she said.

During the same Democratic party hearing, Richardson also supported issuing driver's licenses to illegal immigrants and qualifying them for the in-state tuition rate that Massachusetts residents are charged to attend public higher education. The state charges a higher rate for students who come from outside Massachusetts.

Illegal immigrants in the Bay State could be issued driver’s licenses under a controversial amendment tucked inside the house’s comprehensive transportation reform bill yesterday.

Minority Leader Rep. Brad Jones (R-North Reading) blasted the measure - which could come up for a vote today - saying undocumented aliens could use their driver’s licenses to try to vote or to board planes illegally. “I don’t think this is the time or place for this,” Jones said. “If you’re here illegally, this driver’s license could be a breeder document to get so many other things.”

Rep. Tom Sannicandro (D-Ashland), who filed the amendment, said the measure would ensure safety on streets because immigrants would learn the local rules of the road. Plus, he said, the licenses would help officials determine how many illegal immigrants reside in the state.

Not to worry the FEDS are getting in on the act too. They are planning to count illegal aliens for the census so they can get more benefits for them...not to deport them, oh yeah the illegals will be used to determine 'population' for the purposes of allocating congressional seats...

Put them in the census, give them licenses, welfare, free medical and let them vote (since they'll all vote Democrat ). But, I never here let the 18 year old illegals register for the draft.
