How is that even close to Rush's statement? Carville made the statement "before" 9/11. Meaning, that the country had not been hit with terrorism, as opposed to I hope he fails "after" the country is staring down a depression.
Do you think the Republicans wanted Clinton to fail, even before he officially took office? Not that there's anything terribly wrong with that.

The attacks on Rush are part of a Democratic strategy that's proving quite effective. Republicans had a different strategy. Their's was to turn 9/11 into an event that elevated Al Qaeda into a vastly more powerful entity than it really was at the time; build them up even further by launching an attack on Iraq based on lies. That strategy worked well for the Republicans, but the difference is it also cost over 4,000 American lives.

No it isn't. There was no crisis when Carville said it. Carville was wrong to say that, BTW.

Of course he was wrong and it is the same. You're either rooting for the country or you aren't. I don't root for my kids any different if they're doing well or not. If you rooted against Bush you rooted against the country and that is the same however well the country is doing.

None of that has anything to do with Carville rooting against the President (at the time) and the country.

Limbaugh f'd up in making that statement. These types of policies have NEVER helped the economy. The only question is how much these socialist policies will hurt the recovery of the economy.

Yeah, it has everything to do with it. The whole issue is political b.s. and always has been. Rush says hundreds of stupid things, but the Democrats have used some of their top guns to bring press attention to this particular one. It was a political calculation that so far appears to be working. Carville's comment was equally stupid and the Republicans could have gone after it, but they chose not to, probably because they had a different political strategy. The Democrats clearly want Rush to fill the political void in the Republican Party, which he seems more than willing to do. I doubt the Democrats were so divided that the Republicans could have pursued the same type of strategy with Carville.

The fact of the matter is (are) :

1) Rooting against your country is rooting against your country. It's not some political calculation and neither should be the response.

2) Rush has always been just a media guy. Carville sometimes is but sometimes he's actually in the inner workings of the Democrats. Carville saying it is a lot worse - it's like someone who works for the Patriots saying he is rooting against them vs. say Mike Reiss.
