Surprising that you would blindly support a Norman Lear, Media Matters production.. but it is nice to see you walk across the aisle once and a while, amazing what you can learn..
Last night, through a massive crowd of people that David Brock and Media Matters for America assembled for an excellent Inaugural celebration at the Hirshhorn Museum, I thought I saw Norman Lear. And a tear came to my eye.
I haven't seen Norman in a number of years -- but he was one of the founding funders of the New America Foundation, a think tank that I helped build and which is committed to pragmatic, solutions oriented policy work. Lear has started so many things -- of course, People for the American Way as well as the Norman Lear Center at the USC Annenberg School of Communications run by my pal and fellow Huffington Post scribe Marty Kaplan. And of course, he is the iconic television producer of such shows as All in the Family, Maude, Sanford and Son, The Jeffersons, One Day at a Time, Good Times, and Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.
Arianna Huffington Loves the idea... there is also videos accompanying it..
Arianna spoke with producer and activist Norman Lear as the election results rolled in. Lear told her, "I'm at a christening. It's my christening as a born again American."
She also discussed Obama's win with activist Laurie David, HuffPost blogger Marty Kaplan, and Lear's 14-year-old daughter Madelaine
Interview: Anti-Christian-Right Crusader Norman Lear on Becoming a 'Born-Again American'
Norman Lear, the television producer behind such hit shows as All in the Family and Sanford and Son, founded the anti-Christian-right movement in 1980 when he launched People for the American Way. His new campaign, Born Again American, borrows evangelical language in trying to promote civic engagement and political involvement. Lear talked to me about People for the American Way's religious roots, President Obama's new Office of Faith-Based Initiatives, and his own spiritual journey:
How do you feel about President Obama launching a White House Office of Faith-Based Initiatives, which was seen as a coup for religious conservatives when George W. Bush opened it?
It needs to operate with a blinking yellow light, so the money is given evenly to all religious efforts. And the whole question that came up in the Bush administration of discriminating in employment—all of that has to be done away with. You cannot discriminate.

I support the sentiments of the video: America belongs to those who want to make it a great place to live, with fairness and freedom for everyone to express themselves.
For the record, I am not a supporter of Norman Lear's general point of view; I think his liberalism is myopic, as is most of "liberalism": ""we support 'anything' you say (as long as we agree with it)"".
Anywho, the vids OK with me. Living up to it is the challenge, for Mr. Lear and all of us.

Founded by TV producer and philanthropist Norman Lear, and led by Honorary Co-Chairs and former Presidents Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford, "Declare Yourself" is described in their literature as a "national nonpartisan, nonprofit campaign initiated in 2004 to energize and empower a new movement of young voters to participate in the 2004 presidential election. From January through Election Day 2004, over one million young and first-time voters registered to vote through events at Declare Yourself's spoken word and music tour of college campuses.

There's clearly a need to rise above partisan ideology and realize the "logic of the heart", as Mother Moon once said in some public speeches she made years ago. The age of true love is here. The eternal world is the world of love, and we need to do everything we can to prepare for that final stop on this earthly journey.
