I firmly believe that for banana brained, and operated states (including the fed), bankruptcy is the best thing that could happen. Just make sure you have a weapon before it does.
How exactly did you get a weapon in the People's Republic of Massachuesetts? You got a permit for that thing, Plaxico?

It's not as easy as other parts of the country, but it's doable. My brother, who's a former paratrooper, has 7 rifles, so worst case I could borrow a couple off of him. I don't even have an FID card, so I need to snap with it. A few of my buddies, atleast 5 off the top of my head, have their licenses to carry a concealed weapon. I personally hate guns. I've shot all kinds at ranges, and in Italy, but I don't like them. I think they're too powerful to keep around. All it takes is one little slip up, or freudian slip, and someone is dead. Call me paranoid, but there is no do over with a gun. It's why I've never owned one. I'm seriously thinking of investing in one though. My buddies neighbor teaches the course to carry a concealed, and he keeps telling me to come to his class. I figure I should, since I can just bury the gun in a safe, in my house.

It's like he looks in the mirror and suddenly is seeing Barack Obama. Someone needs to tell Duval Patrick that he's not the President of Massachusetts. (I thought it was funny back near the end of the season when he was introduced on the field for some ceremony at Gillette and got booed.)

Raising the gas tax is one of the very smartest things that could be done. It discourages oil imports and forces investment in alternative energies. I think it is obvious to everyone that oil won't be around forever, so getting off it as soon as possible is one of the best things to do, because when it does run out, the run-up in cost and social turmoil will be like nothing ever seen.

I don't know anything about Patrick, but it takes balls to put this proposal out there. He's probably committing political suicide, but it is the right idea. A much better option would be to get all the states together and lobby the fed to do it.

I had a conceald permit for years in Mass the first time I went to renew it I was amazed at the ***** I had to take from a Police Capt, he actually thought he was God, this bastard was treating me as though I was a bank robber, he asked me what I wanted to carry a gun for, I said it tells you right on the permit "protection" then the arrogant bastard says "call us if you need protection" I said "by the time you get there I'll be dead" he said I'm not going to renew it, I said "let me talk to the chief" he said "he isn't in" I said "ok, when I get home I'll keep calling him until I get him and I'll tell him you told me to call him" he took my permit, then he took my picture, then he renewed it, he never said another word.

Cops don't seem to want Law Abiding citizens carrying guns, there are a lot of cops that shouldn't be carrying guns.

I hope they don't ever let Press Cover carry one..........

It won't need to run out first... The mere beginnings of oil decline will cause markets to crash worldwide... Which is exactly what we're seeing now in the derivative bubble... Peak Oilers have always said financial meltdown would occur long before the last drops of oil were extracted...

Still, I guess you could say: what's the difference? We're still looking at civil chaos.

Ah right, because the extra revenue from this tax will be going directly to R&D in alternative energies.

By your logic we should tax the ***** out of twinkies and ho-hos because our national obesity problem is bankrupting our healthcare system.

All this tax does is make gas more expensive for the end users who are already short on cash and worst of all feed the monster that is the MA state government which prefers to take more rather than cutting any of the ample waste we have. I'm also not sure how making gas more expensive for end users will spur alternatives. Isn't the price of crude (which as PC and others have said will go up again and I agree) a MUCH more important factor in where the investments go?

Of course Harry the fact that an 80 year old man walked into the station in his pajamas carrying his 38 in one hand and a bottle of hooch in the other probably made him suspicious...
