I have no doubt that $250K is very nice and comfortable anywhere - I don't make that so I don't know. But after taxes I suspect it's not "don't worry about money" wealthy. I guess it depends on what people mean by wealthy too.

The median income for full time working men in the US is $45,113. (according to wiki). Making more than 5 times that is most certainly "don't worry about money" level.


250K is the top 1.5% of the US as far as median HOUSEHOLD income.

I don't think we disagree but wealthy has a little different connotation to me - my wife and I don't have to worry about money; however we also have two cars over 10 years old. We don't make $250K but we do alright - now, if we were buying a new car every year we would have money issues. I don't think of us as wealthy - I think of wealthy being someone who upgrades their Mercedes every three years. Maybe that's filthy rich, not wealthy.
