Default Ayn Rand - From 1959

Ayn Rand: Some interesting stuff for those who like to look back on the thoughts of others. She predicted we would end up with a dictatorship and in financial disaster ... interesting stuff from 50 years ago.

Quote:
Ayn Rand - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ayn Rand (IPA: /ˈaɪn ˈrænd/, February 2 [O.S. January 20] 1905 – March 6, 1982), was a Russian-American novelist, playwright, and screenwriter. She wrote the best-selling novels The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged and developed the philosophical system known as Objectivism. Born and educated in Russia, Rand emigrated to the United States in 1926. She based some of her writings on her personal experiences and was a fierce opponent of communism.

She worked as a screenwriter until 1932, when her first play was produced in Hollywood and Broadway. Her first successful novel was The Fountainhead, published in 1943, and her best-known work was the philosophical novel Atlas Shrugged, published in 1957.

Her political philosophy, reflected in both her fiction and her theoretical work, emphasizes individualism, limited government, and the constitutional protection of the right to life, liberty, and property. She promoted the concept of the hero standing against the mob, amid derisive depictions of trade unions, socialism, and egalitarianism, arguing that rational self-interest, properly understood, is the true standard of morality and that altruism is profoundly immoral.[1

Yes, talking heads have been throwing around "Atlas Shrugged" comments for a while now. I have never gotten around to reading it myself. I actually have a hard cover version. But, I need some time to get through it so I've never started. I read The Fountainhead about twenty years ago and loved it.

I'm an Ayn Rand fan, I like Fountainhead better than Atlas Shrugged though

She's probably rolling in her grave at the past 10 years, and especially the past 6 months

Doubt if I will ever read Ayn Rand.. do not suspect there is a lot of gratuitous sex or violence...

couple of things come to mind, glad I listened:

1. Mike Wallace is an incessant bore.
2. The use of the male pronoun is obvious in this 50 year old video.
3. When I was undergrad, had the opportunity to study with some who were a whole lot left of center, remember extensive discussion about how the role of Gov't was to perpetuate itself... guess that is classic anti Ayn Rand.
