I saw this , too. Federally funded faith-based initiatives? WTF is that? Keep your freaking myths and legends to yourself and your families and get your hand out of my pocket!

What a backwards concept. Change, my asz!

Funny how everyone wants to scream about funding the NEA but no one gives a crap about the feds supporting religious-based whatever. I think there's a connection here.

I would rather get rid of these programs altogether whether faith based or 'community' based, that said if the program exist why discriminate against faith based orgs as opposed to other NGOs?

He's not just continuing them btw, he's also expanding their reach.

Faith-based office to expand its reach under Obama

By MICHELLE BOORSTEIN and KIMBERLY KINDY Washington Post
Feb. 5, 2009, 7:57PM

WASHINGTON — President Obama Thursday announced the creation of his faith-based outreach office, expanding its agenda beyond funding social programs to work on policies aimed at strengthening family life and reducing abortion.

Obama’s office leaves in place rules that allow faith-based groups receiving federal funding to hire only people of their own faith, but White House aides said the hiring rules would be reviewed on a case-by-case basis when there are complaints and that the Justice Department will provide legal assistance.

Obama’s move more fully formalizes the partnerships between the federal government and faith groups that first began under President Bill Clinton and was expanded by President George W. Bush. But where Bush used the faith office primarily for funding programs — drawing criticism that he was mainly assisting his political supporters — Obama said he wants to use the office for policy guidance, as well.

discriminate against faith? giving money to an NGO that's religious based is a violation of church/state separation.

Faith based organizations cannot possibly be as diverse as to satisfy everyone. However ... Obama is trying to modify how people are chosen and hired. Is there really a huge difference between a faith based organization and a politically based orginization? Skin color diversity is an attainable goal for every orginization. Religious diversity for religious orginizations is an inane thought.

Faith based orginizations however diverse or not diverse serve a greater role in keeping our society from gravitating to socialism. The less people are dependant on our government the better. The more faith based orginizations are pushed aside the closer we get to becoming an oligarchy. Seperation of church and state is possible without elimination of church from state IMO.
