"Che" the movie: loved by WashPast, criticized by WashTimes
Strict was The Washington Times' criticism of this film that glorifies one of the most hardened Stalinist communists ever to operate in the Americas, the puff piece movie on Ernesto "Che" Guevara, has hit the theaters all across America. When The Washington Times questioned the star actor, Benito del Toro, to ask why he would want to glorify an example of the cold-blooded murderer, Che, del Toro suddenly ended the interview and ran away. The Washington Post said, in effect, "We make no value judgments about Che or the film about him."
"Critics of "Che" have suggested that the film whitewashes its protagonist's legacy and that it's impossible to understand the man by glorifying his more romantic aspects while ignoring his darker side.
"We can't cover it all," Mr. del Toro said. "You can make your own movie. You know? You can make your own movie. And let's see. Do the research."
Mr. Valladares is afraid that Mr. del Toro and Mr. Soderbergh's film will make people forget the reality that was Che Guevara's life.
"Benicio del Toro is just one of the many accomplices of the Cuban tyranny," he said. "All the murderers of people have had accomplices and people who made excuses for them. Stalin had them, Hitler had them, Pinochet had them, all the dictators have had apologists for them. Che Guevara and Fidel Castro also had them."

If the Washington Crimes says this it must be true, be prepared for another 150+ thread that will be all about Foggie and his beliefs.. it is a movie pure and simple, take it or leave it.. remember the ranting and raving over Heath Ledger and how his holiness Foggie felt he deserved to die.. that filled a few pages, right up there with Prince and his bad hips.. descend into the rants and rave about how wonderful Nixon was.. self engrandizement is evident.. it will become about Foggie, but as long as he is here he cannot be recruiting maidens for Pikarume or other Moon practices. There will be no common sense, just personal attacks.

Che Guevara was loved by the poor and oppressed. He was an important symbol at a time when so much of South America was dominated by corruption, greed, and violent racial prejudice. Che demonstrated how the left wing could battle the ruthless right wing. The fact that in many cases the left was as brutal as the right does not diminish the fact that Che was loved by the poor, while he fought those loved by the multinationals.

I was in Oaxaca (wah-HA-ca) in 1994 with some friends. We saw the Che shirts and posters everywhere. Mexico is as varied and dynamic as the United States is except without the snow and sanitation. He was a folk hero there.
Strongly recomment Oaxaca for a vacation if you can rough it and go native. Great times!
