Gotta love the gubmit. But hey, remember, it's going to be "FREE" once it's paid for.

As the Mass Pike shifts into crisis mode over how to wipe out $2.2 billion in debt, new payroll figures obtained by the Herald show almost 200 employees pulled in more than $100,000 last year.

And, nine state troopers assigned to the plum Pike beat top the list of the highest-paid in 2008 with all earning more than $200,000, payroll records show.

The sad part of that is that making $100,000 a year in MA (at least eastern MA) isn't very much money for a family considering the cost of living here. I can hardly fault them those salaries. Now 200k is stretching things.

So just let the Pike be free and let them all go hit the road ... or is it the pavement.

The Median Household income in Ma is 46K. If you start looking at Walpole, norwood, foxboro, westwood, etc, Ie the suburbs of boston, it goes up to above 60K.

$100K for one person in a household IS a lot of money, atleast to the vast majority of us.

Well, we've figured out how apple strudel thinks. It's expensive to live in an upper end suburb in the western part of the state, so it's ok to have a road that is supposed to be free, filled with tolls, so long as it only pays the people working there $100,000 a year, and not a penny more dammit! You know, with all the job losses over the last couple of months in this country, maybe the gubmit could simply build a USAPike across the country That way, we could put everyone to work. Hey, it would pay them pretty good too.

People deserve good salaries. At lest enough to send their kids to college, own a home, retire at a decent age, and take a vacation every now and again. So I can't fault them for that.

Massachusetts is Median household income, 2004 $53,657.

Massachusetts QuickFacts from the US Census Bureau

I'd look at the Mass Pike as a corporation like mine. There is no way 200 people should be making over $100K. We have 1,200 employees and we "might have 75-100 making over $100k.

You just don't pay gov't workers the same level of pay as the private sector.

I think the strudel guy and syovia are a couple...kinda cute, aint it? They seem to travel in pairs and have each other's back.

If the government workers are unionized you pay them as much or more. Score 1 for the unions.

Wow, you just can't actually discuss an issue, can you? It just immediately turns to personal attacks.
