This guy Geithner reeks of everything wrong and secretive about America. He used to head up the NY Fed, one of the main offices of the illegal, unconstitutional private Fed. He was involved in the IMF, which has been a deliberate tool for imperialism and economic slavery of 3rd world nations.
This guy is one of the biggest insiders, just as bad as Paulson, and he may just be the guy in the right spot to screw us even more in the next 4 years.

Re: Obama Picks Tim Geither for Treasury Secretary
Seriously folks, whom would YOU pick?
Someone without any experience in handling the economy? I'm all for change, but at this particular time, Treasury is not the cabinet seat to go all "Mavericky" about.
If you'd like, we can have H. Ross Perot or Mark Cuban take the job when all is more stable.

Huh?
When did the federal reserve become unconstitutional?
Both republican and democrats have worked with the fed. I dunno what you were expecting from Obama or McCain from that matter but not working with the Fed was highly unlikely.
Both Ben Bernanke and Henry Paulson actively represent the Bush administration at the IMF. Without the IMF the global economy could not function nearly as efficiently.

The Fed is an unconstitutional private banking entity, which runs fractional reserve banking at interest. Its name is deliberately designed to make people think it's a government body when it's not. Look it up for yourself. If the US government paid back all its loans to the Fed, it would require all the dollars of the world, plus interest would remain which would be unpayable unless more dollars were printed.
The IMF and World Bank are immoral, predatory bodies designed to put poor nations in deliberate economic slavery. Read "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man", a NY Times Bestseller. If by global economy you mean American economic imperialism, the yes it helps us, but it doesn't help anyone else, in fact it has dramatically widened the wealth disparity between rich and poor nations over the past 40 years.
As for the guy who posted two posts above, I would take Ross Perot over Geithner any day.

It is an independent agency of the US. The governors are appointed by president and confirmed by the senate.

I disagree with some specific policies of both the IMF and world bank. Just like i have specific problems with specific polices of the UN, the FEC, FCC, EEOC, and the CIA. I don't support scrapping any of those organizations either.

Thats nice. But you don't get to name Obama's cabinet.
Obama isn't stocking it with Farikkican and Ayers like the right-wing fear mongers threatened he would before the election. And he isn't going to stock it with right wing nut jobs like Perot and if you are holding out hope he appoints John Sigler to head up ATF I got bad news for you.
Obama's cabinet will be predominantly centrist democrats and centrist republicans who have experience and are competent. You want to know what the change is....it is called competency. You won't see Micheal Brown being tapped for the head of FEMA.... don't expect Ray Nagin to get tapped either.
Re: Obama Picks Tim Geithner for Treasury Secretary
You forgot... "Market sinks to 7500!!!!" or "Market rebounds to over 8000!!!!!" depending what your political spin is.
Evidently your contention that the Fed is "unconstitutional" because it is a quasi-private, quasi-public entity, has never been favorably (from your point of view) adjudicated by the Supreme Court.
If the establishment and perpetuation of the Federal Reserve is indeed unconstitutional, you have to make an argument to the courts, not to a message board.
Until that time, the Fed is just another quasi-governmental entity. Its board is presidentially appointed and confirmed by the senate; it is not under any particular cabinet department. Whoopee.
It is also a fundamental part of our current financial system. Again, whoopee.
As for Obama not "changing" things enough because he's not the commie he was painted as, I'm underwhelmed.
You don't see a difference, that's fine. The basic capitalist system will remain intact, you are correct. That is why McCain's people were lying when they called Obama a "Socialist."
The outside limits of what I personally dare to hope for in America (not just under Obama but in my lifetime,) are these:
- An end to racism and seeing race/religion/ethnicity instead of individuals
- A "floor" that applies here and around the world, beneath which individuals are not allowed to sink -- and a significant rise to that floor.
- "Socialized" medicine; i.e., putting medicine into the public sphere as we do with highway funding and defense.
- Zero tolerance - not of drugs but of hunger, worldwide (watch the malthusians lose it in five... four... three... two... one...)
- Zero population growth policies accompanying our international aid. See above. While its true that distribution is the problem vis a vis hunger, energy costs for distribution are mitigated when you can grow enough for your population close to home. Fu(k the zygotes, save the living.
NONE of these necessitate these campaigns against Capitalism; in fact they all fit snugly into a bourgeois liberal mold. They are also within the framework of what currently exists, and does not necessitate the dismantlement of embedded institutions.
I get really turned off by impotent anger against entities like the FED and the IMF. The organizations exist; point them in another direction.

You are right, the Federal Reserve is an independent agency which holds the US by the balls. The President and Senate have fake puppet power, they always confirm whoever the Fed recommends to take over its top posts.
As for talking about change = competency. I look around and Obama is just going around putting in people with biased agendas catering to those with power and influence. Appointing Geithner, one of the biggest insiders in on the current robbing of America, is not very comforting, nor is the appointment of Emanuel, one of the most biased and extremist people when it comes to advising on Middle East policy.
Look at who advised Bush/Cheney and then look at what they did, there is a strong link with the advisers' bias dictating action.
