Default Pirates----?????

Pirates taking over huge tankers and cargo ships off Africa (Somalians) how the hell in this day and age do these savages take over a Super Ship with nothing but some shotguns and a few machine guns, why aren't these Super Ships armed, why don't they KILL the scummy pirates dead in the water and sink their damn rowboats, sounds like there are some Batty Loony Democrat Liberals mixed up in this and they don't want to offend the Pirates or violate their civil liberties, why don't the Super Ships fight back with Cannons and kill the bastards------------

Well, they're all from Somalia, or at least that's where they hang out. You remember Somalia. Black Hawk down. About 160 US elite special forces, Deltas, Seals went into Somalia to capture one of the war lord bigs. Turned into an utter fiasco. Similar to Jimmy Carter's pathetic night-time helicopter "assault" of Iran to free the 53 US hostages held by the Iranians, the US force in Somalia was in unfamiliar territory against a native force that hid amongst the people (civilians) population, and fought like the cowards they are. You must remember that. Happened when.... why, Bill Clinton was the president, October of 1993.

Imagine that.

But Bill said: "Heh, nothing to worry about any more. We'll never have to go back to Somalia again. God-forsaken place. Heh-heh." That was almost exactly 7 years and 11 months before 9/11.

Piracy has been on the rise for a few years now. Not only are the Somalis doing it, but pardon the pun, but their are Pirates in the Carribean! They have boarded the sailboats and yatchs of the wealthy and killed them and taken everything. This is why most of the "Snowbirds" those who live in the US and usually winter in the Bahammas have taken to not only arming themsleves, but even smarter travelling in groups of three or more boats.

The US can not stand for piracy of commerical vessels (it is a crime in the US to pirate any US flagged vessel). If this keeps up, the US will have to intervine for the sake of internatinoal commerce. I doubt the Somali pirates would fair wel against a Navy Frigate or Destroyer.

I think this is a great time for the NATO navies to swing into action, in conjunction with all those nations who have already had ships pirated -- including Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ukraine, etc. Great way to form an alliance against evil. Do a sweep from both ends of the east African coast, from the Hormuz to Kenya. Round 'em up and put 'em all out of business, permanently. Enough is enough.

It's interesting that this tanker, carrying 100 million dollars worth of oil, did not see fit to arm it's crew especially since these pirates now hold 13 ships. Not only that, these particular pirates were armed with rpg's. Where did those come from? That's some heavy duty ordinance.

All tolled there have been a total of 70 ships attacked in the last couple of years, yet apparently nobody thinks the crews of these ships need to be armed. A tanker the size of an aircraft carrier carrying 100 million dollars worth of oil has an unarmed crew of 25.

It reminds me of how well we guard our borders.

Commercial ships cannot be armed by international law. National military and coast guards need to be able to board an illegal ly operating ship without fear of being shot at.

Forget sending a Navy warship, send another oil ship with 500 US Navy shipmen armed with missle launchers and shoot the pirates out of the water without warning. Then do it over and over again on different kinds of ships so the pirates won't know what hit them.

I think that would send a clear message. I have no sympathy for pirating...their lives or their deaths are irrelevant.

So my idea of having these ships carrying 500 or so Navy shipmen would work perfectly!

Whatever we send, this should be about as competitive as me playing in a 2nd grade flag football game. For the love of God, PIRATES . . . are you kidding me ?
