I wonder what he would have said, had he been brought to this country as a slave and all the dignity that came with it, back then?
Would he have kissed the ground as he stepped foot on land after months of not-so-luxury travel or would he have cursed the land that made a slave of him, knowing that he would never see his home or family again, and knowing that his life would not be that much better than a farm animal's.
Beacuse that's what Rev. Wright, who by the way, served this country as a marine, was talking about.

Witnessing how he curses every other thing, I have a pretty good idea what Harry's answer is.

A Black man being elected President is a statement, a reminder to the whole world as to what America is.
We truly are the land of opportunity and freedom, for all to cherish and look up to, and now we have proven that we are the beacon of hope.

As I understand it those of us who still believe that of America are not "real Americans."

Maybe this election was our response to one extraordinary personality, but I don't think so (and I certainly hope that's not the case.) I think this is a matter of us taking back this hijacked country.

Yes, there is W's EPIC failure to clean up, but I think Americans are ready for it. The best part of me thinks we're all well aware that toys are nice but that you have to take care of your business, and we're all in the same boat on that one.

McCain lurched from false symbolic gimmick to false symbolic gimmick trying to revive the politics of "me," culminating on a wholesale invention called "Joe the Plumber," who was not named Joe and was not a plumber, and had been on welfare on numerous occasions before opining that a 4% increase on the top marginal bracket, which he's never been subject to, is Socialism.

Those who are not idiots and prefer not to be treated as idiots are the majority now, it would seem. One would hope this is a sea change, and not one fleeting moment.

I prefer to think of the sea change as being W's election/9-11 and this recent election being an example of the people stopping and saying:

WTF were we thinking?

America is just another country in terms of having made awful mistakes in its past. I don't know of any that doesn't have sins to account for. However we were on a trajectory that was improving things albeit slow prior to the turn of the century.

But that's me, I happen to see this as just another recession, just likely to be more painful than many.
