I constantly hear them talk about how they're hiring 10 more people, and meanwhile, the 50 already there do nothing. What's worse, is they all complain about the money they make. I tell them all it's a great gig if you can get it. One of my buds told me about how at one job, they had a game room with a pool table, Direct TV with the NFL package, and a bunch of video game consoles. The cops on detail, workers, etc. all hang out in there during work. What a sham this state is. I'd guess the payrolls are bloated by a solid 50%.

I run a power plant at a state college, and while I surf the net I have to fight for every day off because they won't hire more than a skeleton crew. I also don't get payed nearly as well as if I worked for a IPP independent power producer, 20-30% less. So all the benies, and stability keep me working for the state.

Whatever you do, just make sure that if the meter starts redlining, and alarms start going off, you finish your post first.
BTW, you don't work for a Mr Burns in Springfield, do ya?

I'm voting yes. I think it's a no-brainer. Why would ANYONE not directly vote to lower their taxes if given the chance?

I wouldn't. I actually cheated in voting in this poll since I no longer live in MA, but my brother does and is voting "no", so I suppose my poll vote counts for him.
Count me among those who thinks taxes are a good thing, as long as they're spent responsibly by the government. And I trust the government to do that, which I guess makes me a pretty standard liberal.
I live in DC so I walk by the IRS building (which is just off the National Mall) quite often. On the building is inscribed the following quote from Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes: “Taxes are the price we pay for a civilized society.” That pretty much sums up my feeling on the matter.

Well, count me among those who believe income should not be taxed. Consumption tax is the way to go.

I've read the posts, I just happen to disagree. I know this is an extreme example, but unless people are going to go out and pave their own roads or put out their own fires, I have to believe that the Government does SOME good with our tax dollars. This is also my political leanings talking, so I realize that there is room for disagreement, but I trust Democrats significantly more to spend my tax dollars on things that matter to me. Others' values certainly differ, which is fine. I can see both sides of it.

Re: Question 1 on MA ballot
So where and how do they replace this money ... extra taxes on the Kennedy compound?
Seriously ... what goes up booze tax, cig tax, tolls, gasoline tax ... i find it hard to believe they don't need or don't want to need the money. So ... does this favor the wealthy over the unwealthy and will it bring more wealth to the state as it does in florida?

Fair enough. If it was my call, I'd tax pretty much everything. I believe in big government moreso than even many in my own party (at least more than they're willing to admit on the campaign trail). In the current political narrative, I guess that makes me a socialist, which I wasn't aware of (since I never got invited to any of the meetings) until Sarah Palin let me know .

read some of the articles on this. the NY times had one. back in 2000 they were suppose to lower it and the gov't was going to do it in three stages but froze the 3rd. the legislature essentially stopped it.
i dont expect the income tax to go away completely but think it should go to between 4-5%. get rid of the waste.
it's like if i'm negotiating i start low to get where i want to go if i'm buying.
i think you need income tax for infrastructure, schools, police, fire etc. but if why should it be higher than 5%? then why not 10%? they already get state sales tax, dmv registrations, tolls, license fees, excise. it needs to get cut back in these times and in general.
it's time for the people to tell govt what to do and not govt telling the people
