The problem is the transportation to power plants across the country. Technology consists of the neg. ionazation of the ash this is attracted to pos. grounded plates or wires in the path of the flue gas. This removes 99% of ash down to the size of 10 um's. Some plants use this or Bag Houses where the ash is filtered. The ash is sold to co. that make concrete. NO SOs and CO2 are decreased by the use of scrubbers that spray the emmisions down with "sorbant" that neutralizes these polutants. I don't really want to go into greater detail its to loate in the evening. But the technology is pretty much there and in use around the world.
Almost forgot fluidized bed boilers these reduce the gases by increased efficiancy i.e. burning at a lower temp. Above 1600 deg these gases especially NO are formed at a much higher rate.
I wish I was a scientist.. I will need some dumbing down to fully grasp this.. do not bother though, I guess you know what you are talking about.

The technology is pretty much there, what it comes down to in other words is that:

1. It makes for good political speeches to paint coal as really dirty and not a green tech which in all fairness it isn't. Its just not as bad as the rap it gets.

2. NIBMY No one wants a power plant near them.

You think its bad what i posted try reading the text books BOOOOOOOOORING. Five page will knock you out put you to sleep faster that a couple of shots and some valium.

[QUOTE]When we talk about jobs, these Draconian
estimates of lost jobs that they
have hired some think tank to come up
with, what about the jobs and the economic
effect on the United States of
America that is already taking place
when we have four hurricanes in one
season in Florida; when we have greater
and more extreme climatic effects
generated by greenhouse gas emissions?
How much is it going to cost
when the great barrier reef dies? The
Australian Government has said that
the great barrier reef will die by—I
think the year is 2040. What happens
then to the food chain? What is the cost of this?

[This amendment, I am sure, will be
attacked—thousands of jobs will be
lost, we will find some obscure scientist,
some will talk about the dangers
of encouraging the use of nuclear
power. The fact is, we are going to win
on this issue. The reason we are going
to win is because every single month
there is another manifestation of the
terrible effects of what climate change
is doing to our Earth. The problem is
how late will it be when we win? How
devastating will be the effects of climate
change on this Earth on which we
live? I am very much afraid that every
day that goes by our challenge becomes
greater and greater.
That is what this debate is all about/QUOTE]
