Default Palin's Orwellian Spin on Troopergate...

Interesting article from the ADN... pretty vindictive and damning... it is that damned appearance of impropriety thing again...

Sarah Palin's reaction to the Legislature's Troopergate report is an embarrassment to Alaskans and the nation.

She claims the report "vindicates" her. She said that the investigation found "no unlawful or unethical activity on my part."

Her response is either astoundingly ignorant or downright Orwellian.

Page 8, Finding Number One of the report says: "I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act."

In plain English, she did something "unlawful." She broke the state ethics law.

I think that might be a misquote. I'm pretty sure Palin only broke an ethics "code" and not a law. Otherwise she would have been prosecuted. A politician can't break a law and not be prosecuted, so that quote just doesn't seem correct.

Let's just pray that 'ol Barney is seeing his last days. I will help campaign against him as soon as I hear who his next opponent will be. Even if I have to campaign for a republican, I'll do it. That's how bad Barney has been.

You just watch how many proposals to GIVE money to everyone that he sponsors in the coming months. He'll support bailing out any company, any stimulus package, any home owner that walks down the streee whether they need it or not.

He believes he can single-handedly fix our failing economy when the truth is, it needs to go through recession whether he likes it or not.

Will you all were sleeping I wrote about it in the daily Palinism which got buried. But it struck me as more Alice in Wonderland like

Sounds like Palin followed the White Rabbit down the hole.

I’m very, very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing ... any hint of any kind of unethical activity there. Very pleased to be cleared of any of that." --Sarah Palin, after an Alaska legislative report found she had broken the state's ethics law and abused her power in the Troopergate scandal, conference call with reporters, Oct. 12, 2008

Not sure the distinction, in most states policy becomes law after it goes through many processes and is promulgated, for many it is the kiss of death in politics as there is an abuse of power and an apparance of inpropriety.

This does not seem to have any penalties imposed, except public embarassment..

Here is the ethics Act..

More on Palin's argument, that does not hold water.. the panel was composed of 8 Republicans and 4 Democrats.. Ethics Violations are a violation of the public trust and usually are treated seriously, no matter what the spin.

PolitiFact | Report finds Palin violated ethics laws

Quote:
Palin has attacked the investigation as a "partisan circus" and spokeswoman Meg Stapleton claimed the legislative council "seriously overreached, making a tortured argument to find fault without basis in law or fact." The campaign also notes that the council made clear that the vote to make the report public was not an endorsement of its findings, and that five members of the council spoke up to say they did not agree with the report’s findings.

Those all may be legitimate arguments, or not. But the issue here is Palin’s characterization that the report concluded that she did not do anything ethically wrong. The report concluded just the opposite. The report says she did abuse her authority and she did violate state ethics laws. By saying otherwise repeatedly, in what seems to be a deliberate attempt to mislead or confuse voters who don't know the facts, Palin isn't just wrong, she's Pants on Fire! wrong.
