Okay, the wait is over.

I stumbled on the info -- which by the way, a lot of people NAILED -- in this article:

No matter what you think this implies, this is just a great article on one of the crankier men of his time. It's also pretty interesting regarding the purposeful "dumbing down" of English, to make it easier for American kids to spell -- and more characteristically American. Early Phonics.

That's why there's no "k" in "musick" or "u" in "color". But then I think it was Mark Twain who said he had no use for a man so unimaginative he knows only one way to spell a word.

So read it, have a laugh, etc. There's something for everyone, as far as whether we should have a national language (and a couple of other subjects.) A couple surprises too.
