Default Bush did three things to skyrocket the debt from $5.7 trillion to $10 trillion

Bush did three things to skyrocket the debt from $5.7 trillion to $10 trillion:
1. He lowered taxes on the rich (by far the biggest item).
2. He invaded Iraq instead of winning in Afghan-Pakistan (another $600 B).
3. He loosened controls on Wall Street.

As it happens, McCain backed all three policies

I would disagree with #1 being a factor, since revenues stayed steady before and after the tax cuts. The problem was even though the tax cuts were revenue neutral he kept increasing spending. I'd agree #2 was a big problem, especially since much of the funding was kept separate from the yearly budget so it got tacked directly on the national debt. I don't understand how #3 would lead to an increase in the deficit, what is the connection?

edit: How about #4, something else that must be a factor, the interest on that debt piling up. Any idea how much of the increase that accounted for? No idea here.

In 2003 they passed the Tax Act, and you can see where "revenues" (my favorite word), rose thereafter. Spending needed to decline though, and it certainly didn't.

Exactly right RW.

Too much spending Bush did nothing to restrain congress.

Maybe RW should run for President, he does have better knowledge of how taxes work than the "clean" candidate.

Hahahaha , you need to go back to learn basics , do your homework , then comeback:

from 2000 to 2006 :

White house is republican
congress was republican (until one year ago)
House is republican

They pushed and passed what ever bill, legislation , loan to nowhere they wanted , they specially used the war on terror strategy in every CORNER , to scare the people who tried to resist.

Remember the republican MOTTO : " You are either with us or with THE terrorists "

that's how every freaking bill was passed.

Funny.....

Bush somehow needed to stop his own party from spending?....Ya... Peeps seem to think about congress, and emocratic control like they think about the Iraq war and the Surge.... Its like Conservatives forget the first 6 years of teh Bush administration like the first 4 years of the Iraq war.... LOONY
