Default Mishaps mark John McCain's record as naval aviator

It's almost funny, if it wasn't so sad. McCain loses three planes through mishaps, flies about 20 hours of combat missions, and then gets taken prisoner. I suppose given the sorry crop of Republican leaders these days that makes him a hero.

Mishaps mark John McCain's record as naval aviator - Los Angeles Times

John McCain was training in his AD-6 Skyraider on an overcast Texas morning in 1960 when he slammed into Corpus Christi Bay and sheared the skin off his plane's wings.

McCain recounted the accident decades later in his autobiography. "The engine quit while I was practicing landings," he wrote. But an investigation board at the Naval Aviation Safety Center found no evidence of engine failure.

The 23-year-old junior lieutenant wasn't paying attention and erred in using "a power setting too low to maintain level flight in a turn," investigators concluded.

How does that compare/contrast with Obama's time in the military ?

Obama was doing community service, helping steel workers and poor people protect their jobs, their homes, and their communities. McCain deserves credit for his military service, but he certainly didn't accomplish anything noteworthy.

He was a *****, doing bullshit community service and activism. More jobs that are easier than working at McDonalds.

I think serving in the military, risking life and limb for his country is something I would call noteworthy.

Yes, I agree, but giving up lucrative opportunities in law to serve one's community is in my opinion equally noteworthy. Also, I think Obama has more to show for his service than McCain has for his.

I think he needs a few more decades to catch up to John.

That's nice - but my point was that no-one who didn't join the military should be criticizing those who did barring the very rare criminal type activity.
