The Washington Post revealed Tuesday that Alaska Governor and McCain vice presidential pick Sarah Palin, whose 17-year-old daughter Bristol is pregnant outside wedlock, earlier this year used a line-item veto to cut $1.1 million (22%) in funding which would have at least partially benefited teen moms in need.
"Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family," Palin said in a statement. "We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi's privacy, as has always been the tradition of children of candidates."

So she cut back on a social program? Maybe 3.9 million was adequate. How many teen mothers live in Alaska that need this service? Was 5 Million aked for so they could get 4? That's how budgets are proposed aren't they?
This is the classic diarea thinking of some people on both sides of the political isle, and an example of why budgets end up being grossly over inflated over the years. If you cut military spending, you're unpatriotic, if you cut education spending, you don't care about kids, and in this example, if you only give 80% of the $$ that was asked to assist teen moms, you don't care about children. This diarea logic is doubly dangerous since the reverse ends up being done to atract the poo-poo heads who fall for this. For example, education spending gets quadrupled to prove said candidate cares about a kids education, or the MIC gets another couple hundred billion to prove said candidate loves his country.
Diarea thinking at it's finest.

"The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him." Leo Tolstoy, 1897
She's a right-wing, conservative Christian, Republican hypocrite. I can certainly see the righties supporting her here, but by supporting her cuts, they seem to be undercutting their apparent message that there was no failure by any adult in the fact that a teenage girl got pregnant.
If Palin did not have the money or other family resources to help her daughter, where would they expect her daughter to turn? What kind of help would they expect society to provide her daughter and child? What kind of choice are they giving young, single, pregnant women -- is it a choice between abject poverty and abortion? Is it a choice between negligible social services and abortion? In this way, the anti-abortion right wing promotes abortion; there are, of course, a number of anti-abortion liberals who argue that better services should be provided to reduce the number of abortions.

You're assuming the $5 million was the amount needed for the progarm. So if 3.9 million is enough then your series of rhetorical questions are hot air.

Can you provide specifics? Can you give one example of an unwed mother who died of poverty in Alaska because she could not find food or shelter? What about adoption or aid from families, churches, faith-based organizations, etc?
The government is not an answer to all our wills. The sooner you learn that, the sooner you'll learn responsibility.
Your post is all "feelings" based, but in the end relies solely on the government. Socialism = failure

Super catch. Nice find.
Ummm, let me help you Mr. "I have no idea what I'm looking at but it sounds good" lefty.
first, look at the your evidence.
See the line that says "EXPANSION". What that means is she cut PROPOSED INCREASES to the current budget to cut out pork spending in an expansion project that is in addition to other budget items that exsist in prior budget. The 3.9M they ended up receiving was in ADDITION to money they already received for teen pregnancy items. Slashing funding only occur to EXISTING budget items. An EXPANSION is not an existing buget item, its a suppliment.
So yeah, I guess she SLASHED funding for teen mothers by only giving them an EXTRA 3.9 million dollars that year.
Only the lunatic left could take a "decrease in the amount of proposed budget expansion item" as slashing funding. Next time dude, at least try to READ and UNDERSTAND what you are looking at before making an ass of yourself.
She also lopped out an additional $264 M of wa(Please be quiet - edited)l spending out of the budget that year. GOOD FOR HER.
