Default A Tax Revolt Is Quietly Brewing

Quote:
On Election Day, Massachusetts will vote on whether to eliminate its state income tax. Advocates hope victory in a place long thought of as a free-spending liberal bastion will pave the way for similar initiatives in other states over the next few years. Critics insist a yes vote would lead to fiscal disaster.
While Americans are focusing on the presidential and congressional races, voters in Massachusetts and other states will decide the fate of dozens of state and local tax and spending issues.

I'm voting yes on Question 1. I'm pushing people to do so also. Bye, bye robbery of my hard earned cash.

"Critics insist a yes vote would lead to fiscal disaster."

It should lead to responsible spending but it will probably lead to more debt and higher taxes in other areas. Spending is out of control.

I think initially a passing of yes we'll be hit hard on state services and schools, but I also think it will lead to responsibility down the road. Sure property taxes or other taxes will go up, but the officials elected need a wake up call to spend within a budget.

The Big Dig is still the posterchild for absurd spending. The interest on that debt is absurd.

The state should have built a second major airport to service central and western mass instead of trying to fit 30 clowns in a phonebooth in Boston.

Logan airport :
26$ parking per day
limo and taxi pay logan (massport) 5$ every time they pick up a client , plus when leaving the airport they have to shell another 5$ 25 cents for either tunnel (sumner/ted williams) , that means when you just sit inside a cab at logan , you are already paying 10 dollars 25 cents + your final destination of course.

So voters will vote no on income tax and then the sales tax and/or local city and town taxes will go up. When do politicians ever give anything back? This will just be a shift in who gives what. Also ... who will this hurt the lower income people or the higher income people?

at least towns and cities would have more control over their own budgets and expenditures.

good question on who it would hurt. if they raise property taxes then it's home owners. so how many low income own their own homes. people with multiple homes, lavish homes would feel some brunt.

what about collecting income tax from let's say manny ramirez or the entire patriots team? that's alot of lost income.

it's too bad they couldn't have just decreased it instead of getting rid of it all together.

Here's a novel idea, instead of wondering what is going to go up, how about spending less?

I'm with you, but just wait and see: the sheeple will defeat it, just like they defeated the ballot initiative to allow wine sales in grocery stores. This state is filled with weirdos, and a high percentage of them live in Cambridge.
