The part towards the end of the story is downright scary ... and seems wrong IMO. Not a hate crime??? Really?
Why do we have to go over this stuff time and time again ... sad state of affairs in some areas of the country.
Quote:
When police were questioned about why all three defendants were not charged with felony second degree battery, Stubbs responded, "Because you have to have disfigurement for a second-degree battery charge, and only one victim had disfigurement and he was attacked by the one suspect that we booked."
However, Louisiana law defines second-degree battery as "bodily injury which involves unconsciousness, extreme physical pain or protracted and obvious disfigurement."
The victim suffered "a broken eye socket, broken nose, and several lacerations to the face," and his wife was knocked unconscious.
"I feel that's racist," said Henderson.
As to why officers only charged one suspect with second-degree battery, police said under former Police Chief Dewayne White, officers were told to take all offenders to prison. Towards the end of his term, the policy changed and officers were told to use discretion. That's the policy in place now.
As to whether this falls under a hate crime, police said early reports show it does not meet the statute but remains under investigation.

It is not even debateable that this crime is the exact same had it been a white neighborhood with white aggressors....so it's not debateable that these people should be facing hate crime charges....
I'd feel the same way had the roles been reversed. Blacks attacking whites makes me just as upset as whites attacking blacks.
gives something to the conference in Atlanta to talk about.....
the cycle will never end

Yeah. The career criminal and his friends were probably poor, stupid and racist- definitely violent. These white folks in Baton Rouge were caught in a bad hood and got jumped by these losers.
This reminds me about all of those racist criminals you post about, Harry. You know. The ones where the white guys are beating up a black guy? What's that? You can't remember posting about that? Yeah. Neither can I.
But let's not shoot the messenger.
Racism is bad. Really bad. And if we had Harry filtering the news, racism would look like this story and the idea of white-on-black racism would be the exception.
Is that what you want us to believe? Does that make you feel better as a white guy?

Good.
Can't imagine any white on black violence in the deep south
Racism is still alive, on both sides, unfortunately. Its funny, my wife and I were just talking about this subject. I'm African American and she's Puerto Rican. One of her coworkers, a white female, is married to a Columbian guy and his mother has never liked his wife. We suspect because of race issues. When she comes to visit them at home (their home is in the community next to ours), his mother won't even use the same plates that are in the house.
She displays a true distain for her and has no issue making this known.
I hate to see this happen. These people were, and will forever be losers. Nothing else better to do but "make fun" of people "just because". Just a family stopping for gas, not bothering anyone. Its embarassing to me, as a black male, to see this happen as often as it does. I don't care about it happening the other way, it shouldn't happen at all.
