Let's not pretend... we all know why thes checks are not being done, it is money, lobbyist money going to the right people. And, it is not going to change.

It is like all the rah rah talk about taxing the rich yet at the same time not fixing the loop holes that all the rich use to avoid paying taxes.
The atf only has something like 5,000 employees total, and only about half of them are agents. There's almost twice as many gun shows a year (actually there's probably more now) as there are ATF agents.

Quote:
In 2005, Michael Bouchard, Assistant Director/Field Operations of ATF, estimated that 5,000 gun shows take place each year in the United States. Most gun shows have 2,500 to 15,000 attendees over a two-day period.
And thanks to congress and the NRA they severely restricted what the ATF is allowed to do. They can't keep track of gun sales, they can't inspect licensed gun dealers more than once every 12 months and they can't even require that gun dealers maintain an inventory of their guns.

Congress has consistently blocked any appointees to lead the ATF proposed by Obama..

Despite the proliferation of guns amongst the american populace and the security threats by terrorists, their agents and investigators have not increased all that much..

No one can consider any plan to increase protection in our schools without discussing costs.

I just love when people blurt out ideas and never mention the increases in cost that would result. We can not continue to increase federal, state & local taxes upon the average American without dire consequences.

I see Maine's example as evidence that our nation does not have a firearm problem, it has a social problem.

What is wrong with the people of Detroit?

Quote:
As a comparison, Detroit has a population of 700,000 people and had 380 murders in 2012, while Maine has a population of 1.3 million people and averages around 30 murders per year.

So if more gun control leads to less gun crime and fewer gun controls lead to more gun crime, as the national elites would have us believe, then why is Maine's murder rate per capita 25 times less than Detroit's?

Better question - what is wrong with people who think they can compare a city to a state?

Maine has a population of 1.3 million people and a murder # of 30.

Michigan has a population of nearly 10,000,000 and a murder # of 613.

That's a comparision we can actually talk about.
