I don't know if they're right or they're wrong, but I do know they've done their homework and, as such, have the right to be heard and considered.

At the very least, armed officers in schools shouldn't be an all or nothing solution. Each individual school should have several options available to them.
The NAACP seems to be using police that are in certain schools as a measuring stick for more police in schools. But, the police that are already in those schools are there to protect the students from the other students. Whether it be guns, knives or beatings.

Personally, I think that if the kids in those "urban" schools do not want to feel like they are in prison, then they should stop acting like criminals. I would guess that the students that are their to learn and not deal drugs and participate in gang recruiting like have the police there. Just a guess of course.

P.S. I agree it should not be an all or nothing deal, let the schools and their individual situations be the guiding factor.

DARE is largely inneffective, but because it is a feel good policy that has a lot of backing by the law enforcement community, they continue to fund it.

Have spoken to quite a few teachers since Newtown and none of them want to carry a gun.

I agree D.

I might (deductive reasoning here) be one of a handful of people here who experienced DARE first hand (5th/6th grade). Good idea (keep kids off of drugs), but just not realistic in the means they are attempting....

The cynical side of me thinks its ironic that cops do it...but that is for another tread.

And to me....Guns in school (teachers/cops) doesn't address the problem of why crazy folks (more often than not younger) bring guns to school to kill people. So indirectly, I am with the teachers you have spoken to.

I still say "Janet Napolitano has come up with the best solution" all teachers should carry scissors.

I put this idea right up there with "Let's not build any more tall buildings" after the World Trade Center attack.

Stupid reactionary paranoia. It's why kids can't play outside without adults anymore.

They are gonna take full advantage of the Sandy Hoax incident. First its cops in your school then military at your houses taking your guns.

I'm a little confused...maybe it's just the members of this board but the people who are arguing for guns in schools are the same people who are arguing that the government is going to take away their guns.

Pretty much no one who wants one of these things wants the other.

I also resent your use of the words "Sandy Hoax," as it does a grave disservice to those who lost children and family members.

Many whacko haters say Bush pulled off 911.

Many whacko's say we never landed on the moon.

Many intelligent people believe Obama & Pant Suit COULD help our ambassador in Libya and they are right.

Many people believe that Obama has no Real Birth Certificate (I'm one of them)

So, in other words, DARE is just like gun control laws.
