I saw Ted Nugent perform last night at the Casino Ballroom in Hampton Beach, N.H. It was a fabulous show, two hours of nonstop heavy rock with Ted's blazing guitar work leading the charge. This was the fifth time I've seen him, going back to 1975, and the guy quite amazingly still delivers a killer show.
Two things of note that brought me to posting this here: Ted is now 60 and looks/performs like he's 40 -- the guy claims he's never touched drugs and never drinks to excess, and I believe it. In that respect, he's inspirational. Second is his politics. As most of you know, Ted is a right-wing extremist whose over-the-top rants hit fever pitch in his concerts. The stage is "decorated" with REAL automatic weapons. The targets of his verbal wrath between songs included the likes of animal rights activists, Ted Kennedy, Boston, and France (his comments about the latter were quite funny). He opened with a heavy instrumental version of the "Star Spangled Banner," led the crowd in acknowledging a contingent of enlisted military in attendance he apparently hosted, and said the best way to ensure American security is to "kill more *********s" and hold the line against evil. On some of the T-shirts being sold was "Ted Nugent Is My President."
I'm a political centrist by and large, a registered Democrat who's open to voting Republican for the right person under the right circumstances. But, I left this concert feeling rather, shall we say, jingoistic. I found myself wishing I could share the Nuge's ability to see the world more in terms of black and white ...
Anyway, Ted is unique in the world of rock music. If I was a diehard liberal, no way could I stand the guy. He makes me cringe and makes me laugh, and certainly appeals to the part of me that doesn't come out too often.

That's a pretty cool report Tunescribe. Ted's certainly.... something else. I like some of his music, laugh at some of his comments, and roll my eyes at others. He's a bit of a know-it-all but seems to have genuine good intentions. I'm a moderate-to-right voting guy, and I get irritated by him occasionally. Overall though, he's at least engaged in the workings of our country.
I understand the simplistic appeal of seeing things in black and white, but it's really better that you don't. I'm not a moral realtivist by ANY stretch of the imagination, but the issues are much more complex than most extremists from either side would have know. You can't solve problems by just yelling "drill here now!" or "no more blood for oil!"
Thanks for the report though! Sounds like a good time was had, and that's more important than politics.
And in another shocking revelation reflexblue claims Harry Boy is his illegitimate father. Hi YA DAD.
dude...you have GOT to get a different avatar. I saw No Country for Old Men twice...great flick! But that pic just makes me think of you as a creepy slimeball...no offense of course
You're simply ignorant for dismissing this out of hand. I've read/seen interviews and feature pieces about the guy going back 34 years and it's been a well-documented theme in his career. Nugent's "drugs of choice" early on were women, rock 'n' roll and hunting. He's now married but the last two still are in play. He's been an extreme outdoorsman since his teen years. If you knew more about the man you wouldn't consider it such a stretch.
By the way, I publish a music magazine for a living and know that it's very common for musicians who are serious about being the best at their craft to eschew drugs/alcohol. Like any line of work that requires concentration, reflexes and awareness, messing with inebrients can be counterproductive.

I think that makes us brothers! :banned:

"The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him." Leo Tolstoy, 1897
Does anyone remember the Rock and Roll Army in the 70's, Nugent has long been a rocker.. the right wing masquerade is something he adopted around the time of the militia movement in the upper Mich peninsula in the 90's.. it is all about the marketing, not about the politics.

Well, he's very active with the NRA, is an official spokesman for D.A.R.E., appears fairly often as a guest of Sean Hannity, etc., etc. I'd say that goes a bit beyond marketing.

Of course it does. If not, then he should get an academy award. He's a country-type guy, grew up with hunting; it makes sense to me that this is just who he is. People may be annoyed at that, but it's natural to get annoyed when someone is forceful with opinions we don't share. I definitely do believe that he's stayed away from drugs and alcohol as well. He's looney enough.

I was thinking the same thing. What kind of nut cut his rock teeth in the 70's and didn't drink or do drugs. He might have been good if he had! His music blows, IMO, though. Really stupid lyrics and boring melodies. No soul whatsoever.
For example:
That Nadine, what a teenage queen
She come to town; she be foolin' around
She lookin' so clean, especi'lly down in between; what I like
It's all right
Wang Dang Sweet Poontang
a puttin' me down as a rock-and-roll clown
Wang dang, what a sweet poontang
a shakin' my thang as a rang-a-dang-dang in the bell
Down on the street you know she can't be beat
She's so sweet when she yanks on my meat
What the hell
Wang Dang Sweet Poontang
Great stuff, huh?
I think his opinions are OK with me because they're genuine, even if I disagree with him on some of them. I don't know if they matter or not. I don't think his lifelong sobriety is anything to be admired, though. More like a reason to be suspicious of his sanity.
