So, I was looking through espn.com's "expert" predictions (worthless for the most part), and noticed most of the Defensive Rookie of the Year votes went to either Jerod Mayo or Vernon Gholston.

It got me thinking, why no love for Chris Long? He was the #2 pick!

Now, I remember he was supposed to be a bit of a project, converting from DE to LB, but isn't Gholston doing the same?

Then I thought, "Well, maybe he's not having a great camp." But from many accounts, Gholston isn't exactly setting the world on fire either.

Has anyone heard how Long is doing so far in StL? I'm thinking I must have missed something, because literally no one picked him for DPOY.

I haven't heard anything about his progress but St. Louis runs a 4-3, he's going to be playing defensive end for them. I'd be surprised if he doesn't hold up well this year.

That said, unless he has double digit sacks you don't typically see DROY go to an end. LBs get all the tackles.

Chris Long is not converting from DE to LB. You are probably thinking about posts here talking about what we'd do if the Patriots drafted him back in April...which was convert him to OLB in the 3-4. Since a 4-3 team drafted him, he'll stick at DE.

I can't remember where I read it, but I seem to remember an article suggesting he's struggled in camp.

Fair enough. It can be moved if the mods like.

Posters above are probably right, I mixed up his draft position based on Pats projections. I could have sworn they introduced him as a LB during the draft show, though I'm probably getting that confused too.

If he's playing end, then I agree, unlikely to get DPOY.

The opinion of most people was that OLB was not Long's ideal position.

It has been reported that Gholston has been a major disappointment so far. That casts a big question mark on these "experts" credibility, IMO.
