Watching the Jets versus Patriots it became clear that Ryan has created a better defense with less talent with one caveat. The Patriots front seven is more talented than the Jets but in the secondary the Jets have an advantage.
The scheme of the Jets defense and the coaching has taken less talent and created a better defense but.. big but the Jets have no obvious weakness on defense, they are solid or good across all three units. The Patriots are above average across the front seven but poor in the secondary, the below average secondary holds down the defenses overall potential.

If you think Cromartie, Kyle Wilson, Yeremiah Bell, and LaRon Landry are less talented than McCourty, (Whoever our 2nd CB is this week!), (Whoever our starting Safeties are this week!) you're insane.

It's funny that so many including myself took to making fun of K.Wilson when we chose McCourty, as DMcC was the clear winner in the first year.
Now, not so much...
What really irritates me is that we had a chance at both Bell and Landry, but passed on both of them in the off season.

There were some in here who scoffed at the prospect of picking up Cortland Finnegan a few years ago who the team plays Sunday.
Finnegan would have been our Rodney, the guy is a jerk on the field but a nice guy off it.
I will admit to being one of those guys myself.
It wasn't necessarily the player of Finnegan, it was the outrageous salary demand from he/his agent + the rising out of control cost of free agent CB's.
As nice as it'd be to have him, I still wouldn't want to part with a 5 yr/50+ million dollar contract to do it. I'd much rather dip down in price a bit and try to find something around 6-6 1/2 million per, something in the mold of the Leigh Bodden signing.
Unfortunately, that makes it difficult, so there's an argument to be made that giving up 10 million a year for the "sure thing" may be worth it in today's NFL.

He said that our front seven is more talented, which has yet to include McCourty.
Rex and Tanny are less risk adverse than Bill. How's that worked out for them... Bill is less interested in winning the individual battles than the war. Rex and Tanny are paniced about keeping their jobs.
Lots of teams spend big and draft big. Which of them has won anything recently? This team can be frustrating when it comes up a piece or a play short of the whole enchilada. Who would you trade places with? The Giants, whose HC and QB have been on the hot seat every other season since they first met? Pats fans wouldn't survive a season as Giant fans... Houston, Atlanta, Philly, Dallas, Baltimore, Indy, Pittsburgh??? Not sure they'd survive them, either.

Really, I think K. Wilson isn't very good. He did a decent job covering Branch but had trouble with a gimpy Hernandez and pretty much gave up that field goal in overtime. If the roles were reversed everyone on here would be skewering him over that penalty.
