We all knew...the whole world knew that the Seahawks would be attempting a longer downfield throw on their last possession.

The whole damn world knew, and yet they could do absolutely nothing.

There was little devoted on the secondary in the offseason other than that JAG Gregory.

I am not sure if there was a good talent in this years FA crops but if there was some,Belichick slept on it thinking an improved front 7 would put a bandaid on that area and cover up severe deficiencies......it hasn't yet.

Ebner is a freaking Rugby player and STer and Wilson is a rookie hoping to stop a very fast WR on a deep pass to save the game.

To put your game at risk by having too very raw and unproven rookies against a very solid WR and no pressure on the QB to boot is very embarrassing.

There is no veteran depth in the secondary, there is no leadership there at all and that is the Achilles heel of the 2012 Patriots...Once again.

Someday these young players may develop into good players, but how long will Brady still be here by the time/if it happens?

Tavon Wilson. 2nd round draft pick, 48th player in the draft.

Much has changed since back in the day where we actually didnt play vanilla defense and schemed instead. We had the likes of Troy Brown trying to play CB, Ja'rod Cherry, Randall Gay's, Otis Smith's, Tyrone Poole! I mean you could have put anybody in our secondary and they were successful because of smart scheming.

Most coaches teach their DB's to locate the ball when your in the receivers hip pocket.

The patriots get pass interference penalties because qbs slightly underthrow the deep ball, consequently the reciever slows down or stops and go vertical to make a play on the ball. a db playing the hands of the reciever and not the ball runs into the reciever making the play on the ball.

the problem with this team is not lack of talent. Its coaching.

darius butler in his first year turned his head and made plays on the football. a year later he's a bust

devin mccourty in year 1 stuck to recievers hip pocket and located the football in the air. now hes nearing bust territory.

the patriots need to re evaluate their strategy for the secondary. the techniques they teach to the corners leads to the regression of promising talent like mccourty and butler.

if the techniques dont work switch it up

It has to be a system drafting / player selection failure, as almost never once do you ever hear the name of a member of the Patriot's secondary once they are released/waived and emerge elsewhere in the league.

Both as they go hand in hand. I will add a few more

Cut James Sanders as he was ONLY steady and was an asset in running the backend ,let young players play rather than think. they thought chung will take over and this has not only removed the DB leader but also made chung a less of play maker. Chung was a playmaker along side a real leader and smart safety.

Merriweather for all his bone headness he will give you 5 interception and did some thing usefull. Letting him go for sergio brown !

Even today , look at most of the 7 20Plus plays, the CB is channelling the WR to the middle where the single high safety is suppose to be ..... where the heck is this guy.

pats plan is also runs via good safety play.a place we suck.

Since many of our DB's start off fairly well and typically seem to be cut after their 2nd season I don't see how the coaching can't be a major factor. Our corners seem to lack basic coverage skills, either too far off a receiver or, when they are playing close they'll consistently draw PI calls. It's not limited to the corners though, our safeties also tend to be far away from the ball, tackle poorly and are also prone to penalty calls.
It's really hard to believe that we've been so successful at signing some of the worst players at these positions, maybe they're marginal to begin with but at best they show no improvement once they're here and more often they get worse.
