Morning Belichick: The headset hindrance
Posted by John Tomase at 12:40 pm

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick just finished his morning press briefing, which opened on a humorous note when PR director Stacey James was late to the interview room, causing Belichick to just stand idly by the podium. When James rushed in a moment later, the coach jokingly admonished him. “That’s a $250 fine,” he said.

Most of the press conference was spent discussing the implementation of defensive headsets, which the league is going to speak to teams about next week....

More useless BS from the blimp. What a waste of newsprint. Its obvious that he has no sources for information in Foxboro. Maybe he will bring back his pal from Hawaii to come up with some more stories.

It will be interesting to see how many teams end up signaling in because someone gets hurt or he just is not in for a few plays here and there. Or even because they don't have the second helmet available (Jim Fassel once couldn't challenge a play because he left the red flag in the equipment trunk).

The system seems like it was completely rushed in without thinking through some of the problems. Mainly, as it is currently written, it affects teams like the Pats and Jets, who sub a lot, more than it does the Ravens and Bears, who just give one guy a helmet and say "talk to you in a few."

More of the article for those that decided to b!tch about the post without reading it in full...

Most of the press conference was spent discussing the implementation of defensive headsets, which the league is going to speak to teams about next week. Belichick still has some issues with the rule change, since teams that substitute on defense as freely as the Pats could have a harder time than squads like the Ravens and Bears, where Ray Lewis and Brian Urlacher, respectively, are on the field at all times.

Each team will be allowed to designate two players who can wear the headset. However, only one miked up helmet is allowed on the field at once, meaning those two players must bring two helmets to each game — one with a mic and one without. The miked helmets will be marked by a green dot.
