I am not saying he was great last year but we picked him up midway thru the season. He could have done worse.
The guy has really good career avg. for distance.
With an offseason and training camp maybe he can turn the Distance into hang time which is more the Pats philosophy.
I think he will be more than adaquate especially when you figure we wont be punting that much.
Its not like they didn't bring in other options too. He won the compitition which I imagine was held in mini camps due to the roster limit of 80.

Failing to get that within the 10 always sticks out for me...

I know, it's weird, I can't understand it either...
I mean after all Hansen was ranked 26th out of 32 NFL punters. Where's the love folks?
Seriously, thank God that our team was called on to punt just 44 times all last season. That's a fraction of what other teams needed. Half the teams in the NFL nearly doubled that.
We're lucky punting factored in to be such a minor part of our special teams and, given the dominance of our offense and defense, our overall game.
Most Patriots fans recognize that had the team not had the wide margin of excellence, the deficiency at Punter could have come back to haunt us. It remains the major weak link on our team.

This is true, and given BB's seemingly neverending quest for an MVP punter and a co-MVP returner, maybe the position has grown in importance for us fans. Hansen's been a disappointment overall. Josh Miller otoh brings back fond memories

I'd be happy with a street legal Porshe 959. Unfortunately, I think we're both out of luck for the near future.
