Default Two 2011 AFCE trivia items

Here's some trivia....

1.) The 2011 Jets did not beat a team that finished with a winning record. Neither did the 2011 Patriots. In fact, the only team in the AFCE to beat a team that finished with a winning record was the Buffalo Bills, and that was their week 3 win over the Patriots.

2.) The Patriots only beat one playoff team in 2011 (Broncos). The Jets did not beat any playoff teams in 2011. The Dolphins did not beat any playoff teams in 2011. The Bills beat two playoff teams in 2011 (Patriots, Broncos).

The 2010 Patriots beat almost every playoff team. Didn't count for much once the playoffs started though, which is why we play the playoffs.

1. The New England Patriots finished with a 13-3 record, good enough for the number 1 seed in the AFC.

2. The New York Jets finished with an 8-8 record, missing the playoffs.

Yes, certainly a schedule anomaly.

You must think, how can a team win 13 games without beating a winning team?

Well, they only played against 2 teams that ended up with winning records (Steelers and Giants). They happened to lose those two games.

It was a real schedule anomaly where each team plays three full divisions (including their own). Among the these three divisions (AFC East, AFC West, NFC East) there was only 1 (that's right, 1) team that was over .500 (besides the Pats themselves).

Ok, well, the Pats as defending division champs still have to play the defending champs of the two other AFC divisions. Well, we know what happened to the Colts, and the Steelers accounted for one of the Pats three losses.

Yeah.... it's just a little bit of trivia. Obviously winning 13 games against any teams (except maybe the 2008 Lions) is a nice accomplishment. This isn't a 2009 situation where it was just a 10 win team struggling against winning teams. This is a 13 win team that was able to get that many without beating another winning team.

It also helps to show the opportunity the Jets pissed away.

It should be noted that the Pats won 7 games against 6 teams who finished the season at 8-8. The Pats only faced 2 teams who finished the season with winning records.

This is a 13 win team that over-came a ton of injury adversity, being forced at one point to use their #4 center, a 5th round guard at RT (granted he played both tackle positions in college), and numerous different players in the secondary. Not to mention losing 3 of their top D-linemen in Wright, Pryor, and Carter.

This team has a TON of character and I think that will help them in the play-offs and in the next few years..

We should really take an oath not to complain about the strength of our schedule for at least five years.

To be able to make the playoffs without ever beating a team with a winning record is a strange thing indeed. The jets could have done that with a win today.

We lost both our games against winners, and are still the #1 seed!
