That wasn't the first time Miami passed Brees over either. After Dan Marino retired in 1999 the Dolphins went with career backup Jay Fiedler as their QB in 2000, and he had a 14 TD/14 INT season. Miami had a chance to draft Brees the following April but instead went with DB Jamar Fletcher with the 26th overall pick.
