Default King blames Samuel for Tyree's grab

Quote:
It wasn't the defense Harrison played that allowed Tyree to make the catch. It's the defense that a jogging Asante Samuel, trailing the ball, didn't play that allowed the catch to be made.

Not as bad as the dropped INT, but he makes a fair point.

Of course, it might not have mattered had BB kicked the FG on 4th and 8....but, hey, I'm moving on....

Without coaches tape (i.e. a view from where you can see the whole D) it's hard to tell.

From the TV tape (on youtube) I can't tell who Assante was covering and when, if it was Tyree, when he left him to Rodney, why he dropped coverage, etc.

It does not look like he was close enough to deliver a hit on Tyree before he would have been on the ground. Of course, maybe he SHOULD have been closer.

Do yourself a favor and don't bother reading King, his opinion isn't worth the time.

Just playing devil's advocate, but there's always:

"No way he makes that catch, I better be careful of the drive extending, automatic 1st down, personal foul."

Not defending Samuel, just sayin'.

Let's not go bashing Zant or anyone else....there were many plays he did make that got us to the big game in the first place.

Also, there are many plays not made by lots of players and much coaching that could have been coached better.

It just was not meant to be.....

I've moved on to an awesome Celtics playoff run and looking forward to the march to Tampa for our next Superbowl victory.

I'm not aiming to start a flame session but I must note that this kind of comment is just plain dopey.

1) How do you know for a fact that's King motivation?
2) His peers don't pay the freight so what good would impressing them do?
3) I can believe it - he's great on WEEI- well informed, thoughtful, and he was a Pats lover royale before Spygate. Who can blame him for a being a bit disappointed?
4) Why the heck would you want writers that only pump pro-Pats stuff - nobody's perfect, Sparky, hate to burst your bubble.

Now, I do feel like King went overboard during the Spygate frenzy and that pissed me off. But if getting pissed with someone always means that we have "no respect" for them then I don't know many people who'd have anyone at all they were still speaking with.

King, I believe, genuinely loves the game of football and felt slighted by BB's methods. I wish King had used more perspective but he screwed up, that hardly means he's corrupt.

Maybe you have noticed that every single nation writer has skewered here regarding Spygate - you think that they really have the ruination of the Pats in mind? Don't forget we are one of the biggest football markets in the US, it wouldn't make much sense for them to just blow us off.

If Peter King wrote a good football column, it's just his own version of David Tyree's catch.

I blame the nearest SI editor for letting it happen.
