If there is no cap after 2010 these are the only guys we have in free agency that year? I would imagine it would be pretty impossible to resign Moss, Light, and Maroney in an uncapped environment. We should extend Moss and Maroney in 2009, but we have a ton of free agents to resign in 2009 too.

How much money do you think the Pats would spend in an uncapped environment? Would they start spending more or would they stick to their cap philosophy and never overspend?

I wonder if Moss, Maroney ect wont agree to an extention in 2009 too cause they see an uncapped year looming next season and will break the bank. We can probably replace them but it would be nice to keep them.

I actually think Bob Kraft would spend more in an uncapped environment. Not as much as Jerry Jones, but a good amount. I don't see anything in his track record that suggest otherwise. Look what the team has accomplished since he purchased it.

I would think that it would be just the opposite (if they want to re-sign these players). The Patriots are one of the big money teams, so they could spend as much as they'd like on their own free agents.

There is, however, a strategic purpose to letting a player sign with another team if that player will sign a huge deal because it means the Patriots have the ability to give a big money deal to a free agent from another team (assuming the Patriots finish with one of the best eight records in the NFL in '09).

And I think Maroney wouldn't be a free agent because players would have to wait six years before first entering free agency.

Of all of the players mentioned, the only one I could see being retained is Maroney. Moss will be three years older, Light will be well over the hill, Morris will have many more miles on him. The focus should instead be on developing young tallent within the pipeline to ensure a smooth transition once these players have passed their prime. The FO refused to develop a young, tallented pipeline at linebacker. This resulted in two-three years of well below average play from the inside linebackers and general reduction in overall team speed.

Let the players 32+ walk, and have 24-26 year olds with 2-4 years in the system under their belts ready to go. No sense in keeping players past their prime around. Not only is their utility and diluted value reduced, they are taking up valuable roster spots. Let them go, allocate resource to the pipeline or bring in 26 year olds with enormously front-ended contracts . It's cost-effective, smart and builds continuity.

I don't think the uncapped year is going to have THAT much of an effect. It'll change the landscape certainly, but how many teams can afford higher than the salary cap? NE, Dallas, Washington, the New York teams... anyone else?

And even these teams can only overspend so much before they run out of spots / money.

Will there be some ridiculous deals? Absolutely! But it'll have a limit, and there will still be bargains to be found. Not to mention, it'll be an uncapped year, but that won't last forever. The cap will be back eventually, and teams will have to reap what they sow.

It will change things dramatically....but it wont get to that.....it can't they would destroy the sport.

maybe their are only a handful of teams that would spend more money but how many teams would spend less.

How is revenue sharing affected in the last year (uncapped year) and subsequint years because without revenue sharing soem of the teams wouldnt be able to come even close to spending the same as a Dallas Washington or NE.

Does anyone here have a better understanding of the "let's ****** over the top 5 teams in an uncapped year" rule that Peter King alluded to recently? Anyone know if that is going to be a factor in 2010?
