Default Week 3 Picks

My third installment of my brand new column as a member of the Bleacher Beat.

Quote:
New England Patriots (2-0) @ Buffalo Bills (2-0)
Line: Patriots -8 ½

The streak runs all the way back to 2003. The Bills embarrassed eventual back-to-back Super Bowl champion New England on opening day, and Bill Belichick has unleashed an unforgiving record on the NFL’s most sorry franchise for the better part of a decade defeating the Bills in 15 consecutive games. It has been impressive and entertaining for Bills fans this September, but the honeymoon comes to a crashing hault this Sunday. While Buffalo may sneak its way into the playoff discussion in December, let’s remember what the elite teams in this league look like and realize the Bills are not that. An Oakland attack that features Jason Campbell at the helm posted a 30 burger on a pretty awful Buffalo defense. Tom Brady is already 20% of the way to passing Dan Marino’s single season yardage record; well he might do it this Sunday (I hope your sarcasm meter is functioning.)

How do you figure the Raiders are going to keep Campbell "clean". I'd just like to pass this inside information on to Rex so he can possibly figure out their game plan as well as you have.

Sorry, perhaps you are correct and I do enjoy reading your weekly updates but that part just made me think perhaps I should go into coaching.

Lots of agreement on many. I enjoy your weekly picks, not a huge fan of bleacher report as far as 'hard-core' stats and reporting obviously, but I don't hate it as much as some do. I believe that it gives up and coming writers with talent a forum to provide their thoughts, so more power to you bro. I think your weekly article provides insight and is written half-way decently.

My biggest diasgreement (FWIW) is SF going to Cincy and winning. I think these 2 teams are almost even in talent, and don't like the west-coast having to play at 10am (local time) issue. It has been a proven perecentage loser, and although every now and then it comes through, I'm not sure it's right here...

Not sure about your fins, I think that game is too wishy-washy, and one to stay away from. Then again, so is the SF/CIN game..That said, if there was a time for MIA to shine and come through, it'd be in this setting. Could go either way though.

I think he explained his thinking here.

Running game, quick screens and dump offs, and attempting to throw the ball deep (which I really don't think is going to work, just my opinion). But the screens and running game may produce 13-17 pts or so. If their defense forces the Sanchize into a mistake or two, they can hang in there possibly.

Regardless, I think it'll come down to the defense. If OAK can make a big play or two, they'll have a chance.

Exhibit A of why this site should have chosen a name other than "Bleacher Beat" in my opinion. As soon as I see 'Bleacher' something I tune it out and change the channel. It turns out that this is a completely different site, but the problem is that I've already formed a negative opinion.

Perhaps the site owner gave the site that name purposely, in the hopes of getting some clicks from people who thought they were going to BR. If that is the case then he deserves all the morons he draws as well as all the flak for being confused with bleacher report.

Ah, point well taken Mr.Sellers.

I honestly made the exact same mistake that you refer to. I wrongly assumed that it was a spin-off blog that was produced by the BR.

Apologies then, to the OP, Wide Receiver/Aqua.

It's not the bleacher report, my buddy bought the url for bleacher BEAT.

I started out with the Bengals winning the game but the more I thought my way through the match-ups, I took the Niners. I also think losing the way they did last week makes them a dangerous team this week. The Raiders went to Buffalo and outplay them and the Cardinals went to Washington and stuck right with them.

I agree that both teams are bad teams, I just don't think the Bengals ever really have an advantage and I think the smart money is on Dalton playing poorly as a rookie goes through ups and downs.

When I approach the Dolphins in an objective manner, they tend to make me a fair amount of money. I was advocating to bet heavy against them in the first two weeks, and they didn't come close to covering either game. This week, I have a lot of confidence in our defense to shut-down the dink and dunk McCoy as well as our receivers to abuse their secondary.

I haven't asked him about it yet; he was a high school friend that I haven't seen since my senior year (all of 5 years ago lol) and he approached me about being the NFL guy over facebook.

But I have to think it was intentional to include the word bleacher in there.

I as well assumed it was related to bleacher report, and have already pre-judged it to be worthless. I refuse to click the link to determine if I am correct. Sorry.

To each his own, my friend

The way I look at it, we have someone who takes the time to think through the games every week, and if you are into some "entertainment purpose only" betting, than any and every piece of info and opinion that you can find may help come to that conclusion that you're looking for. Especially for some of those in-between/closer games that you may be on the fence with.

The ability to weed out the bad info and keep the good is never an exact science of course, but my personal approach is to take as much in as I can. There are always views for people who may think of something that I missed.

As far as the Bleacher report goes, I hate to quote such an oft-used cliche, but it is what it is. It provides a forum for the average fan with writing interests to give their thoughts and opinions. No, it certainly is not the most reliable site due to this nature, but in the same thought it isn't any worse than many of the so-called mediot "experts" either. I wouldn't use them to quote any hardcore facts and stats, breaking stories etc, and I understand many dis-like and dis-credit it. I pretty much do too, but I also remember exactly 'what it is,' which is in the same relation to some of the articles written on this very site by your average fan. Some is good, and some is just so-so. But I do respect them for at least trying.

But since I now realize that it isn't even remotely related, I can't say it'd be fair to already have a bias for someone who is just trying to enjoy being a fan. Aqua made his peace, and admitted to being young and somewhat foolish. Personally, that's more than good enough for me. I also understand those who still bear a grudge, as each person is different. My thoughts are why bother to put negative energy into someone who admitted their mistakes.

We have fans from other teams like Dino 6 rings, Pherin, and Gunnails...so Wide Receiver may end up being another one of those respectable posters--which is actually better than some of our own idiots here. More importantly, it may end up giving Ian even more of a broader audience and better publicity/reputation throughout the overall NFL fanbase.
